Northen Ireland youngster on trial
GLENAVON could soon be cashing in on another of their fast rising young stars - teenage midfielder Sammy Stewart.
The younger brother of Linfield's Northern Ireland U21 striker Thomas is on trial with Coca-Cola Championship leaders Watford.
Yesterday he was in the Vicarage Road side's Under 18 team for a game against Cardiff City.
Stewart was introduced to the Irish League by former Glenavon boss Colin Malone and has made rapid progress.
If the trial goes well he could quickly follow in the footsteps of full-back Michael McKerr who left Mourneview Park for Birmingham City in a package deal worth £250,000.
And Philip McGrath, another product of Glenavon's blossoming youth academy is being tracked by Oldham Athletic.
New boss Terry Cochrane said: "I've been mightily impressed by some of the youngsters on our books.
"Others are also attracting the attention of cross channel clubs.
"But it's vital they continue to mature with us and as they do I won't hesitate to give them their chance in the first team."
