Carlisle joins Luton onloan
AIDY Boothroyd has explained the thinking behind the loan deal which has taken Clarke Carlisle to Kenilworth Road.
Boothroyd was quick to emphasise that the move will benefit Carlisle and Watford which ultimately is the reasoning behind the deal.
He said: "People will question my decision about sending Clarke Carlisle to Luton Town and I'm more than aware of the rivalry and why they would say that.
"A few clubs came in to enquire about Clarke but Luton were the only club to make that firm."
The Hornets' boss hopes that a month of regular competitive football will see Carlisle return ready for Premiership action.
"I spoke to Clarke and he said to me that he hoped the politics of the situation wouldn't get in the way of his welfare and I thought that was a fair thing to ask.
"Clarke has been playing reserve football, but nothing replicates first team action and both Watford and Clarke need him to be playing games at a good standard.
"The main thing is that this deal will benefit Clarke and it will benefit Watford while Luton will get the services of a great player for a short time.
"He will get five games under his belt with Luton and will come back to us a match-fit player."
