"Of course I said yes"

One of the biggest deals of the current transfer season may be sealed within days - as far as Hungarian football is concerned, at least. As we reported earlier, Premier League newcomers Watford are testing Tamas Priskin. After the 19-year-old attacker made his signature with three goals and the same amount of assists in two matches, the English club is looking to sign him.

If everything goes well, Tamas Priskin may move from Gyor to Watford.
Q: It's all good news from England about you these days. After recording a goal and an assist in the Tuesday test match, you now doubled in both categories. The club's Web site said you had a wonderful second half. Are you in such top form?

A: I can't complain, I'm playing well and everything fell into place in the Saturday match. Although we didn't play well in the first half - we were down by two at halftime - the team really got it together in the second half and we won comfortably. I started and played 80 minutes, that's when Aidy Boothroyd substituted for me.

Q: You didn't talk about the goals and assists.

A: Because you were asking about my form.

Q: Okay, let's look at the Priskin goals, then.

A: I headed in from close range from a corner a few minutes into the second half. Then towards the end of the game, i scored from an excellent pass from one of the substitutes from within the box.

Q: Last time you said the manager wasn't very talkative on Tuesday, he took care of the game with a "Nice job, Tamas." Did you at least get a pat on the back after the double?

A: Yeah, we spoke a bit more after the match. He congratulated me, said i had a good game, and asked me if i wanted to play for Watford.

Q: And you?

A: Of course, I said yes.

Q: So only the formalities remain. What's the status of your contract?

A: I haven't seen any papers yet, so i have no idea how long they want to sign me for. Since I have a contract with Gyor through 2009, the two clubs have to first agree on the transfer fee, then Watford can talk to me about the conditions. I hope all this can be dealt with this week and I can really call myself a Watford player from ealry August.

Q: How do you spend your days?

A: As opposed to earlier plans, I didn't return home after the Saturday game, but went to training camp in Denmark with Watford's first team. We'll have a match Monday evening, we'll play the first division team AC Horsens.

Q: Third game: three goals and three assits?

A: Sounds good!

----We asked Gyori ETO, Priskin's current club about his contract status.
"Raymond Sparkes, a Glagow-based agent is negotiating with Watford on behalf of Gyori ETO,'' said Tibor Klement, the club's general manager. "Talks started after the Saturday game and it seems that the English club wants to sign Tamas, who didn't even come back to Gyor, but went to the training camp in Denmark with our permission. As of now, we are expecting a draft contract from the English club on Monday, so I think we can close this transfer deal in the first few days of the week. Tamas will definitely come back on Wednesday and if we have an agreement by then, he will travel to Watford again on Saturday to train for the start of the Premiership season on Aug. 19."

Alright, more news about Priskin, from this morning's newspaper:

http://www.nemzetisport.hu/cikk.php?cikk=119018

As we became used to it in the past few days, we have good news about Tamas Priskin again. The national team player scored for Watford again. Gyor, his current team also revealed that negotiations between the two clubs are progressing well, they only have to agree about the details and another Hungarian could play in the world's strongest league.

Watford late on Monday evening played against AC Horsens, the eighth-placed team in the Danish league. The Northern side didn't make it difficult for the English team that's getting ready for the Aug. 19 league start: it ended an easy 4-0 win for the visitors.

What's a lot more important, Tamas Priskin got another opportunity from the Premier Leauge's newcomer, Manager Aidy Boothroyd now sent him on as a 76th minute substitute. He was the center of attention within seven minutes, he headed a cross from the central defender Jordan Stewart into the net.
"As opposed to our previous plan, I returned home on Tuesday, I'm already in Gyor,'' the 19-year-old player told us. "Now everything is up to the two clubs, Gyor and Watford have to agree with each other. So far, i have no information about the negotiations, i will meet the Gyor management on Wednesday."

The player will meet with Gyor general manager Klement Tibor, among others. Klement sounded optimistic. "We received an offer of a few lines from Watford, in which they concisely outlined their thoughts about signing Tamas. Since this is along our interests in the main points, we asked them to send a detailed English-language contract, which we can sign in the second half of the week, but next Monday at the latest."
As far as we know, the English might sign the striker for four years. Watford so far hasn't confirmed their intention to sign Priskin. Spokesman Tony York spoke cautiously, asking us to come back in the second half of the week as there's no official agreement as of yet.
It seems like everything is in the right track, though - as usual in international football - fixing the details still remains, so we have to wait a few days until the actual signing of the contract.

More on Priskin from today's newspaper:

http://www.nemzetisport.hu/cikk.php?cikk=119095

Tamas Priskin's Challenge

Tamas Priskin's transfer deal has been a hot topic for days. The national team strikers turned some heads with a bright performance in Watford's pre-season friendlies, so the Premier League newcomers want to sign him. The English club and Gyori ETO FC have agreed on the most important points and the deal can be signed early next week.

Tamas Priskin, the 19-year-old attacker, is awaiting the developments about his dream contract at home. Naturally, he is training with his teammates at Gyori ETO in the meantime. Tibor Klement, general manager of the Gyor-based club, said there was no progress on Wednesday and is hoping to receive the draft contract from Watford on Thursday. They will then get it translated, checked by attorneys and can start negotiating the details. The parties can put pen to paper next Monday.

If the three-time full international makes his move to Watford, he will have to show his skills against a huge opponent: the English club will play Internazionale, complede with its stars returning from the World Cup, including Patrick Vieira.

Skysports.com reported that the Hornets also want to sign an English striker, the manager made an offer for Daniel Wright who played in lower leagues. Before we start to worry about Priskin's place in the pecking order, though, Watford will probably loan out the 21-year-old Wright.

The big question is how the high-scoring Hungarian striker would do in the Premiership, famous for its toughness. We asked Hungarian U-21 coach Antal Roth to describe Priskin.

"I can't say we worked together too much, but it was still obvious to me that Priskin has excellent physical attributes despite his youg age," the former 29-time international said. "He is strong and he has the body for infighting, close encounters. Teammates can bravely send the ball up to him, because he is able to hold it even when outnumbered by defenders. He is pretty high-scoring, hits the ball well and strong with his right foot. Interestingly enough, he normally starts from the left wing for his club side. His weakness is that he doesn't yet have his final position. He could be one of the strikers in a two-forward system, but could also be the solution when pushing up only a lone striker to the opposition's defence. I would put more emphasis on improving his heading game, because even though he is quite good at it, he could be more dangerous in the air."

And a good heading game is basic in England. Still, the events of the past few days suggest that Priskin can hope to get a chance to show his skill on the ball in meaningful games in England.

Boothroyd apparently offered 1 mill for him

From today's local newspaper:

http://www.kisalfold.hu/cikk.php?id=187&cid=177888

A Million Pounds for Priskin

Watford are ready to pay one million pounds to ETO for Tamas Priskin, which would be a Hungarian record.

According to our information, Watford are paying one million pounds for Tamas Priskin, a Hungarian record. The striker will fly to his new club in England today and will be available to play in the friendlies aganst Inter and Chievo.
Perhaps it's not exaggerating to say that Tamas Priskin is getting ready for the biggest trip of his life. Not necessarily in distance, he has been much furhter from his home.

Most Hungarian fans can next see the Gyor talent on television - in an exiting Premier League broadcast.

Q: You were difficult to reach, Was it this difficult to say good-bye? (We found the player while he was packing, helped by his girlfriend Timea Zolderdo)

A: Yes, the whole family came together. My mom, my grandma and some other people gtot a bit emotional. We spent the morning together, that's why i turned my phone off. I expected some calls and i definitely wanted to say goodby to Gyor fans through your newspaper. I'd like to thank all of them for the support i got from the stands.

A (the girlfriend Timea): Almost everybody around him was crying this morning.

The young couple were high school classmates in Gyor and have been together for two years and four months.

A (Timea): Everybody is terribly proud of Tamas. We are so happy his trial turned out this way. We agreed that i'll join him later and will continue university through a correspondence course.

A (Priskin): She can't be with me on the flight at 11 tomorrow, but I'd like for her to come and join me as soon as possible - said Watford's newest player.

Q: Are you more nervous now, or when you went for the trial?

A: I was more nervous of the first trip. I have nothing to be scared of now, i know what to expect, it's going to be familiar terrain. Although sometimes it does flash through may mind that this i have arrived at the gate of a huge opportunity and my life can be completely changed.

Q: As far as we know, you haven't yet signed a contract, you will do that in Watford. Your command of the language could be crucial for this as well.

A: I can make myself understood, they probably couldn't sell me to slavery, but you're absolutely right. That's why one of my agent is coming along to help take care of the usual formalities.

Q: You didn't pack too much, although you might not come back for a good while.

A: I'm only gonna be gone a week, because I'm playing for the Hungarian junior team next weekend. Hopefully i can get two matches in with Watford by then, we are playing Inter and Chievo this week. I'm coming back on Friday, though for just a couple of days.

According to our information, the player is taking with him the contracts signed by Gyori ETO and himself. This contains the clause that Watford will pay 1 million pounds in two installments for the Hungarian striker. Zoltan Gera was the only player that was worth this much money when playing in the Hungarian league, West Bromwich Albion payed the same amount to Ferencvaros for the national team player.
Still, the currency (euros vs pounds) in which that purchase was made hasn't been public. For Gyor, the 1998 sale of Miklos Feher has been the record, when FC Porto paid 300,000 dollars for the talented young striker - though that too was being kept a secret at the time.
