Atlético And Valenica Eye Pongolle Move
Quote:
Valencia and Atlético de Madrid are set to go head-to-head in a race to sign Florent Sinama-Pongolle before the summer after the striker's impressive campaign with Recreativo.
Los Ché are looking to bolster their forward line as Nikola Zigic is set to leave the club and David Villa could also be lured to the Premier League if the club receive a suitable offer.
Ronald Koeman's future may still be in doubt at Mestalla, but plans are still being made for the remoulding of the squad for next term and Pongolle is on the list.
Atlético also believe that the former Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers goalscorer would be worth the €10m it would cost to meet his buy-out clause at the Huelva-based outfit.
Pongolle has netted nine goals this term and his speed and strength have won many plaudits as he looks to help Recre retain their top flight status.
If the Andalucian outfit are relegated at the end of the campaign then the club may accept a lower bid for the player that they paid €4m for from Liverpool in 2006.

Valencia should definately go for him I think. They'll probably have Zigic and Villa leave in the summer and Morientes will be about 32 next season.
Pongolle has scored 21 goals in 49 games for a relegation team over the last 2 years, he's quick, scores some great goals and would be a good sub striker for Valencia for the rumoured €6m.
Atletico don't need him as much. They have Forlan and Aguero as starters and Mista as the sub with Maxi available there. What Atletico need next season is 2 quality defenders.
