Valencia goalkeeper Santiago Canizares returned to training with the squad after recovering from the injury he suffered in Germany last week, while injured teammate David Silva sat out today's training session.

Canizares suffered an injury to his quadricep during the Champions League victory over Schalke 04 last week, and had to leave the field, but has also missed the league matches against Real Betis and Getafe, because of its persistence.

Teammate David Gimenez Silva injured his ankle while playing for the Spanish national team, but after the match with Getafe on Wednesday he told reporters that the pain seemed to have gone.

Valencia have been hit by a number of injuries this season, and in today’s training session it was the turn of Raul Albiol, who was treated after receiving a knock to his operated wrist.

Despite injuries to Edu, Caneira, Gavilan, and Vicente, the main absence was that of David Silva, who didn’t train with his teammates.

Quique Sanchez Flores’ squad will return to training on Saturday morning, before travelling to Huelva in the afternoon, where they will do battle with Recreativo on Sunday.

Valencia's Injury Worries Continue To Grow

Quote:

Valencia's troubled season continued on Monday as coach Ronald Koeman returned to training with no less than eight first team players unavailable through injury.

The Dutchman has been unable to name a full strength team since he took over from Quique Sánchez Flores last month and suffered more setbacks at the weekend.

Los Ché face Real Unión Club de Irún on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey and will be forced to name a side full of secon string players to avoid suffereing any more injuries.

While Miguel has to train alone on a specific programme to recover from games, Fernando Morientes joined the injury list as he suffered a calf injury against Barça.

The striker pulled up just before half-time on Saturday and had to be replaced in a game that already saw Valencia being forced to play a makeshift side.

Timo Hildebrand, Marco Caneira, Raúl Albiol, Alexis, Miguel Ángel Angulo, Edu and David Villa were all missing from the visit of the Blaugrana and were unable to train on Monday.

With confidence dropping steadily at the club, the growing injury problems are only adding to the concern and Koeman will be hoping that some of his players are able to use the winter break to rest and return to action.
