Koeman Looks For Valencia Answers
Ronald Koeman has held an inquest into the problems at Valencia with his squad as he kept the players in the changing room for just under an hour on Monday.
The secret meeting has come to light as the club begin to look for reasons why they have hit rock bottom and the Dutchman wants answers.
Having seen confidence rise after an encouraging second half display against Schalke 04 in midweek, los Ché collapsed at home to Athletic Bilbao.
After Fran Yeste opened the scoring early on, the home team in Mestalla failed to respond and became more nervous as the supporters' discontent became more evident.
Koeman replaced Quique Sánchez Flores as coach last month at the helm, but has failed to improve the results or performances and Valencia are now slipping away from the top of the table.
During the meeting, the coach is believed to have demanded more commitment and the general concensus was that the main problem is the team's mentality.
Marca have quoted several players in a report on Tuesday who claimed that they became more anxious as the crowd became unhappy, but that report has been criticised.
Since taking over, Koeman has seen his side defeat Real Murcia at home, before embarking on a run of three games without scoring a goal.
Allied with league defeats against Racing and Athletic Bilbao, los Ché were knocked out of the Champions League after drawing at home to Schalke last week.
The board have already promised to make money available to bolster the squad, but with one of the strongest sets of players in the league it is self belief that Koeman believes he needs, not just new faces.
