Default MD8: Depor 2-4 Valencia

Date:Saturday, October 20, 2007
Time: 19:00 UK
Stadium:

Previous meetings in the riazor

La Liga 2006/2007 - Deportivo1-2 Valencia
La Liga 2005/2006 - Deportivo 0-1 Valencia
Copa del Rey 2005/06 - Deportivo 1-0 Valencia
La Liga 2004/2005 - Deportivo 1-5 Valencia
La Liga 2003/2004 - Deportivo 2-1 Valencia
La Liga 2002/03 - Deportivo1-2 Valencia
La Liga 2001/02 - Deportivo1-0 Valencia
La Liga 2000/01 - Deportivo 2-0 Valencia

Mixed results in the riazor, but it seems with depors decline in the past couple of seasons has led to Valencia winning 3 out of 4 games in the riazor in the past 3 seasons.

Depor have had a good run of form in the past couple of games. With them dominating against a very good espanyol side(though losing unluckily 1-0) and then beating a sevilla side which lacks confidence, but it is still a big feat.

Guardado has been amazing for them so far and it’s on the left were depor are the strongest . With felipe as an attacking fullback who is also very good at defending and he links up very well with the speedy guardado.

Valencia look out of sorts. In their last 2 games they have lost after going ahead first. They lost to a Chelsea side that were there for the beating. Then losing against espanyol, because of quique deciding to rest so many players, starting zigic/arizimendi/angulo It’s surprising that they are fourth in the league, winning 5 games and only losing 2 against Villarreal/Espanyol. I seriously think quique will ruin this very impressive Valencia side.

I think depor might just win this game. Lotina unlike caparros has taken a more attacking approach and it really has benefited depor so far.

Deportivo 2 - 4 Valencia

Valencia responded to their coach's demands and put on an entertaining and very effective performance to defeat Deportivo La Coruña with some comfort in Riazor.

Having been jeered at home games by their own fans this season after some tepid display, Los Ché are very effective on the road and this win maintained their 100 per cent record.

Fernando Morientes scored twice to add to opening goals from Joaquín and Rubén Baraja, while Xisco and Rodolfo Bodipo netted for the hosts in a game that saw Iván Helguera shown a late red card.

Quique Sánchez Flores had called upon his side to lift themselves after tasting defeat in their last game against Espanyol and they began as if that mission statement had sunk in.

The visitors' early pressure was rewarded after nine minutes when Fabricio Coloccini felled Joaquín in the area and the Valencia winger picked himself up to stroke home the opening goal from 12 yards.

Things quickly went from bad to worse for Depor as they fell further behind in the 15th minute as David Silva combined well with Jaime Gavilán, whose final pass allowed Baraja to beat Dudu Aouate.

Valencia were able to sit back and soak up the pressure immediately after doubling their advantage, but were soon pegged back as the home team eventually found a way through.

Moments after José Andrés Guardado came close Xisco capitalised on an error by Cañizares to draw Deportivo back into the match with 17 remaining of the opening period.

Guardado then had a goal ruled out and Valencia were finally spurred back into action as Morientes restored Los Ché's two-goal cushion in the 38th minute as he met a cross from Joaquín.

After such an entertaining opening period, it was always unlikely that the second half would be played at the same rate and so it proved.

Despite the drop in pace there were still chances at either end and it was Valencia that were the first to take advantage of one when Morientes headed home his second of the night.

The effort ended the game as a contest, but Depor did not give up and Bodipo reduced the arrears with two minutes remaining when he pounced on a rebound after Joan Verdú's shot had been parried by Cañizares.

Helguera was dismissed in injury time after receiving a second yellow only moments after being shown his first for a foul on Bodipo.

Very good win for Valencia. They needed the confidence after the loss to espanyol last week.

They started the game very well getting 2 early goals. Morientes really thrived under the great service from the flanks with Joaquin and gavilan(big boost for Valencia).

I thought depor might actually do well, but they really were completely dominated. Though they did get behind the Valencia defence quite often. Albelda has really been poor so far this season and to think that the past 2 seasons he has been top 5 dm in the world imo.

Does anyone know when edu will return ? Because they really need his creativity down the middle, but I guess he would just get injured after a couple of games.

Though I need to find the video of silva putting piscu on the floor

Also no villa so when he comes back they will probably be even better(bet that won't happen now lol)
