Joaquin's Winner Takes Points At Betis

Los Pepinos old boy Joaquin netted what proved to be the winner as Valencia hung on to secure a 2-1 victory after a late repost from Rafael Sobis.


Both Che goals came courtesy of a double act from Joaquin and Miguel down the Valencia right.

The Andalusian wing assisted the Portuguese full-back for the opener on 69 minutes, before the ex-Benfica man set-up the club's record signing to fire home with 8 minutes left.

Rafael Sobis' strike in the closing moments - the result of a long ball over the top that exposed the Che backline and Hildebrand in goal - proved nothing more than a consolation goal.

The match was notable for the omission of Morientes, Baraja and Albelda, all starting from the bench, no doubt in view of La Liga's first set of upcoming midweek fixtures.

New singings Manuel Fernandes and Javier Arizmendi were given the chance to start in their preferred positions, as Valencia made it a hat-trick of Liga wins and four straight victories in all competitions.
