Default MD2: Almeria 1 - 2 Valencia

Valencia notched their first win of the season with the 2-1 defeat of newly promoted Almeria, courtesy of an Emiliano Moretti winner with nine minutes to play.

Quique Sanchez Flores was forced to shuffle the pack given the suspension of Joaquin and David Villa, while the likes of Vicente and Gavilan were injured.

The contest saw starts handed to Alexis and youngster Juan Manuel Mata, while Caneira came in for Miguel at right back, leaving Silva to support sole striker Morientes.

Portuguese new signing Manuel Fernandes also got on the pitch for the first time in Valencia colours, in the second half.

Morientes opened the scoring minutes in the second period courtesy of a Baraja pass. The ex Real and Monaco forward fired from just outside the area into the corner of the net to give Los Che the lead.

Almeria's Negredo, a player who received many plaudits after his heroics in a 3-0 opening weekend win at the Riazor, got the equaliser in the 63rd minute after a Corona cross.

Moretti found the back of the net and that proved to be the winner after a free-kick involving substitute Arizmendi, which presented the Italian with a golden opportunity in the final stages.
