Koeman Sacked As Valencia Coach
Quote:
Preliminary reports from the Mestalla indicate that Ronald Koeman has indeed been relieved of his duties as first team coach of Valencia CF.
La Opinión de Tenerife confirmed around one hour ago that the Dutchman had received his marching orders less than 24 hours after his side's 5-1 capitulation at the hands of Athletic Bilbao.
Dutch sources, including De Telegraaf, have also stated that Koeman is no longer employed by the Mestalla outfit, with the club hierarchy having decided shortly after the commencement of their 18:00 crisis meeting to sack the former PSV boss.
Koeman arrived at the club in November 2007 following the sacking of Quique Sánchez Flores, but he has endured a torrid time in his brief tenure as coach.
Despite winning the Copa del Rey, the side's Liga and European form has caused the club hierarchy to end his contract. In In 22 Liga games in charge of Los Che, Koeman amassed four wins, six draws, and 12 defeats.
In doing so he amassed a tally of 18 points - a total that Quique took just nine games to achieve before his own sacking.
Koeman leaves Valencia with a place in Europe next season, but for the time being, they have five games left to save themselves from relegation, from which they are just two points distant.
Bastille Day
While these reports remain unconfirmed, word is filtering through from La Opinión that Koeman's sacking is part of a massive cull of senior figures at the Mestalla.
His immediate assistants, José Mari Bakero and Toni Bruins Slot, are said to have joined him on the chopping block, but so too are sporting director Miguel Ángel Ruiz and technical secretary Antonio Fernández.
Should these reports turn out to be true, then the board have clearly wasted no time in instituting massive, wholesale changes to the backroom staff.
These would follow hot on the heels of similar switches at boardroom level. The current president, Agustín Morera, only took over recently from Juan Soler, who resigned due to health reasons.
Morera was joined today by vice-president of sports Rafael Salom, CEO Jesús Wollstein, and board member with legal responsibilities José Pastor for a crisis meeting, which apparently resulted in Koeman's sacking.
The quartet were later accompanied by Salvador González 'Voro', a current club delegate and former first team player. Voro is likely to be announced as caretaker manager for the final five games of the season.

Bout time. The fans cried for Quique Sanchez Flores to go, just like they cried for Benitez, for Cuper, for Ranieri, and finally for Koeman.
At the moment, they'd surely kill for any of the above managers (Koeman excluded of course).

When you lose 1-5 against Bilbao then you really deserve to be fired.

Especially when you lost 3-0 at home to Bilbao earlier in the season as well.
Marcelino is being even more strongly linked to Valencia now for the new season. Will all depend on whether they stay up or not.

No the Racing Santander coach who's 1 point off 4th place with a crap squad unless maybe he used to play for Newcastle.

It's not former Newcastle Marcelino. He's a scout at Liverpool now.

tbh I'm not sure if this was the best idea. Of course I thought that Koeman had to leave, but to kick him out a few games before the end of the season could have the wrong effect on the team and perhaps make sure that the get relegated. I mean Koeman wasn't a gd manager but firing him before some important games for the club could throw them into even more chaos.

How could it possibly get worse?
The players apparently didn't respect Koeman at all, and didn't like his system or his tactics and didn't listen to it so all he was doing was being a disruptive influence.
And now they have Albelda (one of their best players, if he still cares), Angulo and Canizares back.

I expected him to atleast get until the end of the season.
The funny thing is he'll probably get another managers job, Brian Robson-syndrome .

Koeman Demands €10m From Valencia
Quote:
Ronald Koeman has told Valencia that he wants €10m for him and his assistants after the club sacked the Dutchman, José Mari Bakero and Toni Bruins Slot earlier this week.
Los Ché have proposed a compensation package of €4m, but that has been rejected and now the two sides will look to reach an agreement somewhere in the middle.
When he signed before Christmas, Koeman put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal along with Bakero and Bruins Slot with the trio earning €12m between them over that time.
After failing to lift the team in the league, the former PSV boss was sacked on Monday despite leading Valencia to the Copa del Rey last week when they defeated Getafe.
Koeman said that he was proud of his achievements at Mestalla and evidently feels that he was removed too early as he wants virtually the entire amount that he and his assistants would have earned had they seen out their contracts.
Valencia do not feel the same way and have offered just one year's worth of wages and have already told the trio that whatever amount they pay out it will be deferred for at least 12 months.

Goal.com - Valencia - Koeman Demands €10m From Valencia
€10m for what he did is daylight robbery. Suppose it's Valencia's own fault for being stupid enough to give Koeman a contract, never mind a €10m 3 year contract.

well seing as they have put a manager in charge of some of the most important games of the teams season who probably hasn't managed before I would say the situation could get worse. as it did today in the humiliating defeat to Barca.

And they beat Osasuna 3-0 last weekend, which was a much more important game than this one, since it's a lot harder for them to get points off Barca and Osasuna are down there too...
Just because they lost to one of the most talented (albeit inconsistent) teams in the world doesn't qualify your point... Things aren't getting worse just cos they got battered since Koeman wouldn't have beaten Barca anyway, at worst their situation would stay the same.
