With the squad he has he could have done better...
Mourinho must be one of the favourites to get the job I'd guess, he could do very well there if chosen, maybe pick up Tiago to strengthen the midfield in January as well... *gets way ahead of himself*

Mourinho would do well but I thought I read that he wants to learn a new language and doesn't want to go to Spain?

I don't think Mourinho would want to go to one of Benitez's old clubs. I think he'd rather wait to take over at a big Italian club such as AC Milan.

The Valencia president is a twat by all accounts, similar situation to Chelsea in that he wants results with style attached. Seems a bit harsh to sack him at this stage, but any new manager that comes in has a very good squad to work with. Always seems harsh to me when a manager loses his job because his team doesnt entertain enough!
Valencia fans are notoriously hard to please though, they booed Rafa when he was winning La Liga and the UEFA cup for them.

I agree with Pibe. Koeman is the wrong dude for the gig. They apparently went for Scolari, Mourinho and Lippi and failed in all 3 so settled for Koeman who they talked with in the summer.
Valencia have the players and position to challenge for the title but I'm unsure that Koeman is the man to do it.

I read that they also tried for Capello, well Koeman might be able to help Valencia, especially in defense.

i agree (with both parts) Good to see you back PM.
on the second part, Valencia' squad is more than capable of challenging for La Liga, and doing well in Europe. Look at some of the youngsters who will be around for years at the club- Albiol, Silva, Alexis, Sunny, Arizmendi, Gavilan- all very talented players. Then you have a core of players who are entering their peak years (or should be)- Villa, Vicente, Joaquin, Miguel, Moretti- and they have pretty much as competitive a squad as there is around. the fans and the president are the problem at The Mestalla. it would have been surprising if Mourinho had taken the job, having already been ousted by a chairman who wanted style over results, and Koeman it seems was the best available option. whether he is the right one remains to be seen, but he has a lot to work with.

I predict Ronald Koeman will do some great things with Valencia. A great coach who knows a lot about football in Spain.

Patricia Murphy you're back
Agreed on Koeman, he is a crap coach. Don't be fooled by his CL run with Benfica. He was lucky, that's it. Playing with 5 defenders and 3 DM's..
Good luck to Valencia, they'll need it...

Well if we evaluate Koeman so far he's done pretty crap. His results I think are:
Valencia 1-5 Real Madrid
Mallorca 0-2 Valencia
Valencia 0-2 Rosenborg
Valencia 3-0 Murcia
Racing Santander 1-0 Valencia
Valencia 0-0 Schalke
Valencia 0-3 Athletic Bilbao
They could have still qualified for the CL 2nd round but they're knocked out now and if this continues then they might even fail to qualify for the UEFA Cup
