Default Fernando Morientes Thread

Quote:
Liverpool have this evening confirmed that striker Fernando Morientes has joined Valencia for an undisclosed fee.
The Spanish striker didn't manage to live up to his reputation during his sixteen months on Merseyside and managed just 12 goals in 61 games for the Reds.

He was left out of the Spanish squad for this summer's World Cup after failing to play a major role in the Liverpool first team last season.

i dont understand why he went to valencia

they might play cl football next season but im sure he wont start unless they change their tactic which probably wont happen

theyve already got mista, angulo, kluivert as backup to the VILLA unless they leave

he wouldve been better of going to osasuna(cl next season) and seville

Default Valencia signs Morientes

AS claims that the deal is done and it was posted as official in the Liverpool official site.

The details of the contract has not been released yet.

I believe he is going to have a great competition with Villa, Kluivert and Mista.
Not sure if I'm happy with it. I have sympathy for Morientes though I never really liked him. I would have prefered if he have succeded in Liverpool, or at least tried.

Marca is running a poll on their website as to whether or not Morientes is going to be a success at Valencia.

With more than 32,000 votes in, the Yes vote is more than 70%.

I would go for a no. Someone posted in another thread that he should had go to other teams were they lack of quality strikers. Such as : Sevilla (partnering with Saviola), Celta, Osasuna or Deportivo.

Valencia have top strikers now and Quique used one sole striker in his formation for season 05/06. Not likely to change...

Default Valencia News Thread

Quote:
Fernando Morientes is expected to miss both legs of Valencia's UEFA Champions League clash with Chelsea after suffering a shoulder injury whilst on international duty for Spain.

The former Liverpool striker sustained the problem when falling awkwardly in the first half of Spain's 1-0 win over Iceland in Euro 2008 qualifying on Wednesday night.

Spain's team doctor Genaro Borras has confirmed that Morientes is likely to be sidelined for up to a month, meaning he will be absent when Valencia visit Stamford Bridge for the first leg of the quarter-final tie on 4th April.

The Spanish side are also likely to be deprived of their top scorer in the competition for the second leg six days later at the Mestalla.

"The shoulder will have to be immobilised for 15 days and he will be out between three to four weeks," said Borras.

"It is not the first time Morientes has had a problem with the shoulder."

Morientes has scored five goals in the UEFA Champions League so far this season, just one less than joint leading scorers Kaka and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Now the former Real Madrid star is hoping to recover as soon as possible to aid his side's bid for glory in Europe and in La Liga.

"This is bad fortune for me because this round against The Blues is very important for Valencia," Morientes told Spanish radio.

"Now I only hope to recover quickly to help the team."

One up with 5 packed in midfield for Vale now?

Villa's not as good as when he has a partner to assist I think.

--------------------Villa
-Vicente-----------------------Joaquin/Angulo
----------Silva--Albelda--Baraja

or maybe Silva and Villa upfront with the 4-4-2.

The pain is that they have no proper cover at CB or CM with Marchena out suspended.

El Galatasaray ofrece cinco millones por Morientes - Marca.com

Galatasaray make a 5m Euro offer for Morientes that could well go through. Morientes is edging on 32 years old and Valencia are looking to bring in a big striker this summer, probably Luis Garcia from Espanyol for about £6-8m.

With Luis Garcia in Valencia, Morientes might not play often and although he had a great first half of the season his second half was injury filled. If this deal doesn't go through then he'll just stay as 3rd/4th striker for Valencia.

Also on the Lucho Gonzalez front, Porto and Valencia are apparently just 2m Euros away from agreeing a deal. Valencia's offer being 18m Euros and Porto wanting 20m Euros.

If he goes to Galatasaray he'll be forgotten and he will ruin rest of his career.

Valencia deny Morientes claim

Quote:
Valencia have rejected suggestions that striker Fernando Morientes could be on his way to Galatasaray.

Reports in Spain have linked the former Liverpool man with a €5million move to the Turkish giants but Valencia have denied that Morientes is on his way.

"There is no truth in those stories and we are not negotiating to sell Morientes," said a spokesman for the Spanish club.

Meanwhile, Valencia midfielder Hugo Viana is close to agreeing a season-long loan deal to join Osasuna.

David Navarro could also be on his way out of the Mestalla, with Racing Santander interested in taking him on a year's loan.
