I didn't see that one coming. If this goes through, Valencia will have two of the worlds best wingers with Vicente, if he can stay free of the niggling injuries he has suffered for the last two seasons, and Joaquin.

good signing. Only problem is his consistency. Maybe that will change, now that he is playing for a contender in both Spain and Europe.

Valencia are looking really good for this season.

Jaoquin and Vicente on the wings. Tavano and Villa upfront. Miguel and Del Horno attacking from deep. Baraja and Albelda is solid. So are Navarro and Marchena. Although a new centreback is apparently on the agenda.

La Liga will be extreamly hard this coming season. Both Real Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia have signed big stars and Real Zaragoza and Atletico Madrid have reinforced with plenty of international players. Sevilla (UEFA cup winners) and Villarreal (semi in CL) with Riquelme and co will also do their best.

Joaquin have always wanted to go to Real Madrid, and its not secret that his club is Real Madrid, but its up to Madrid. They didn't want him and then he went to Valencia. Great sign for them who have Vicent on the other side and Morientes, Villa and Tavano as strikers.

It depends if Vicente can find his form and Joaquin has been a let down since not moving 3 years ago when he really should have.

Valencia though have a decent team, top 3 finish should be minimum target.

Default Joaquín is ready to make his mark

Joaquín believes that it was only a matter of time and hard work before he began to show his true colours at Valencia as a recent run of good form as won him many plaudits.

The Andalucian winger has struggled to reproduce the form that made him a favourite at Real Betis since making the move to Mestalla, but in recent weeks he has impressed.

After scoring both goals in the victory over Recreativo last weekend, the 25-year-old credited coach Quique Sánchez Flores with his improvement.

"In time I have found my place," Joaquín explained.

"Things have now changed quite a lot but it was just a matter of time, clmaness and looking for the right moment.

"I am going through an excellent moment and I just hope it continues because the team is also winning.

"Now I run a lot more. The coach knew what was needed and I have to work very hard, but I have never lost confidence in myself.

"I have learned to be patient and that is why I never looked back."

Valencia travel to Rizaor this weekend as they bid to keep alive their hopes of catching FC Barcelona at the top of the table and Joaquín knows that a victory is vital.

With eight defeats and only four wins from their 16 away games this term los Ché's challenge has been dented by their performances on the road.

"There are six games left an anything is possible," Joaquín continued. "The team is ambitious and that is why we still have to continue battling for the title.

"Away from home we have dropped back in the fight for the championship and that is why we cannot afford to lose this one.

"The most important thing is to keep a clean sheet and from there we can take our chances at the other end."

With his form for Valencia now turning heads at club level, Joaquín is hopeful that Spain coach Luis Aragonés will take notice and give him a recall to the national team.

"I hope that Luis Aragonés will call me up again I have to continue playing like this," he added.

Well Joaquin is the natural choice for Spain now. At the world cup Aragones played a skewered front 3 of Torres down the centre with Villa on the left and Luis Garcia on the right.

He can now play a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 with Valencia players making the front 4 or 3 in both.

Change of formation. Torres is not playing to his potential. He showed some spurts at the WC level but he is still too busy trying to be a premadonna then to help the team win.
