Cañizares - Recinds Contract
Quote:
Villarreal have enquired about the situation of Valencia goalkeeper Santiago Canizares.
‘The Yellow Submarine’ are almost certain to lose current stopper Jose Reina (probably to Liverpool) and need a high quality replacement to step between the sticks.
Canizares has two years left on his Ches contract, and although he is committed to the Mestalla outfit, he is apparently refusing to rule out anything.

Cañizares To Sign New Two-Year Deal
The Valencia goalkeeper has agreed a new two-year contract, which will see him stay on at the club until June 2009.
Cañizares, 37, was out of contract in the summer, but the Mestalla bosses have decided to reward his consistency -and experience - by handing him a new two-year deal.
There was a lot of speculation over his future, with talented young keepers being mentioned, but Quique Sanchez Flores seems to have given his nod, after being convinced that the veteran could, at worst, be a good backup for talented new-comers, and someone the youngsters could learn from.
A contract has already been agreed, and will be signed in the presence of club dignitaries next Thursday.
The deal will see the former Real Madrid man play on until the age of 39, following which he is expected to hang up his gloves.
Cañizares is currently in his eighth season with Valencia, having moved from the Bernabeu in the summer of 1999. He has won two La Liga titles, one Uefa Cup and played in two Champions League finals during the period.
The current contract allow him to retire after completing ten years at the Mestalla.

Well, Valencia were linked to Stuttgart's keeper Hildrebrand, but if Canizares signs a new deal, looks like Hildebrand won't move there.

I heard that Quique Flores rejected a free transfer move for Hildebrand, I don't know why he did but it seems like another strange mistake by Quique Flores.

I like quique has a lot of faith in his players. Has promoted the likes of albiol, silva(selling aimar for him) and look how that has turned out.
The guy is great, spanish jose mourinho lol. But sometimes he does mess up like wanting gabi over raul garcia.

Canizares Signs Valencia Extension
Valencia goalkeeper Santi Canizares has extended his contract - which was set to expire this summer - by another two years.
The veteran goalkeeper had been negotiating a new contract for a while, and had already been agreed in January.
Los Che have now taken advantage of the lack of midweek action to complete some administrative work, and Canizares putting pen to paper was one of them.
"This whole process has been wonderful and in these next two years I hope we can enjoy some more great moments," said a visibly delighted Canizares, who is already in his ninth season at the club.
"I want to thank president [Juan] Soler who has made it possible that I can continue at Valencia.
"Two of my three children are Valencian and we wanted to keep them here.
"On a personal level I have had some very good moment in my time at Valencia, although today might have been among the best."

Cañizares Delighted With New Deal
Santiago Cañizares put pen to paper on a new two-year deal at Valencia as the club made the event into a small celebration in honour of their prestigious goalkeeper.
The 37-year-old custodian admitted that singing the contract extension ended a period of uncertainty over his future and that he was delighted to be secure.
"Everything has been great and I really hope that in the next two years we can celebrate winning trophies again," Cañizares said.
"On a personal level, these last few years have been superb. Everyone at the club and the fans have been behind me all the way.
"I want to thank the president, who made my stay here at Valencia possible.
"Until he appeared it it was all quite difficult. I always wanted to stay here and my children have suffered because of the uncertainty.
Club president, Juan Soler, praised Cañizares for his commitment to los Ché over the past nine seasons.
"Santi is a part of the living history of the club and has always identified with the club," he stated.
"He has also always understood the philosophy here and I am very grateful that he is spending another two years here."
After beginning his career at Mérida, Cañizares moved to Celta Vigo where he became a regular for two seasons before Real Madrid snapped him up in 1994.
Despite winning a regular place in the team during his fourth year at the Bernabéu, when he helped Madrid win the European Cup, the Puertollano-born stopper opted to leave and move to Mestalla.
During his time at Valencia, Cañizares has helped the club win two league titles, the Copa Del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup, the UEFA Cup and the European Super Cup.

Canizares Likely To Retire
Quote:
Santiago Canizares is likely to retire after Valencia coach Ronald Koeman told the 38-year-old goalkeeper he would never play for the club again.
"The other day I said that I was 99 percent sure that I wanted to retire at Valencia and it's most probable that my last jersey worn will be Valencia's since that's what the club has decided," Canizares said Thursday.
The former Real Madrid and Celta Vigo goalkeeper, who is in his 10th season with Valencia, last played in the team's 0-0 Champions League draw at Chelsea on Dec. 11. Canizares, who played 46 times for Spain, said Koeman sat him down Tuesday - his birthday - and told him that he was "going to count on others, and nothing else."
"He thought that I should speak with my representatives to reach an agreement about rescinding my contract, that he wasn't going to give me any explanations and that he didn't feel like discussing it," he said.
Koeman has informed Canizares, captain David Albelda and midfielder Miguel Angel Angulo that they were all surplus. Albelda and Angulo have been regulars at Valencia since 1996.
"I'm leaving (very angrily) because it isn't what I was expecting after everything," Albelda said. "I believe in a change of cycle, but I don't agree with this manner of doing it. It's been a humiliation."
Albelda added that Koeman didn't elaborate on his decision.
"Koeman told me he didn't have confidence in my leadership either on the field or in the locker room and I answered him that he's been here only 20 days and that he doesn't know me well," said Albelda, who broke into tears at one point during the news conference.
Until Wednesday's 2-1 Copa del Rey win over Real Union, Valencia had gone 641 minutes without scoring a goal in any competition, dating to Nov. 11.
Sporting director Miguel Angel Ruiz said the decision on the three players was Koeman's alone.
"No one has dismissed anybody," Ruiz said. "They are players of Valencia who have the same rights as their teammates to train."
Albelda believes he'll have to play abroad to retain his place in Spain's midfield for next year's European Championship. The 30-year-old Albelda is even more confused by the decision since he recently signed a contract extension that keeps him at Valencia through 2011.
"If you want a change of cycles the best thing is to quietly prepare it, not to go and open this polemic that they're opening," Albelda said.
Albelda, Canizares and Angulo helped Valencia to two Spanish league titles, a UEFA Cup and two Champions League final appearances.
Valencia, which finished fourth last season, is currently seventh in the league with 25 points, 13 behind leader Real Madrid.

Valencia CF reached an agreement with Santiago Cañizares on Friday to rescind his contract with the Club. It will be effective next Monday, May 19th. His contract was valid until the end of the next season.
President Mr Agustín Morera referred to this issue in the press conference he offered. ‘First of all, I want to thank the player and his representatives for their will to reach an agreement. I do also want to thank him for the years he played in Valencia. He was and he is still a symbol of our Club and we wished him the best. If he plays on Sunday, we hope he can say goodbye to our great supporters, because he deserves their respect. We’d like things to be different, but he deserves a triumphal exit from Valencia.
