Spanish Press: Valencia Want Mikel Arteta

Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta is allegedly a target for Ronald Koeman's Valencia...

As Ronald Koeman's rebuilding at Valencia begins, rumour has it that the Spanish club is interested in bringing Mikael Arteta (pictured) back to the country.

Sport.es contends that Atletico Madrid are also thought to be tracking the Everton man, but Valencia have arguably more urgency about them at the moment when it comes to rebuilding the centre of the pitch.

The key problem, though, is that Arteta is a firm favourite of Everton boss David Moyes, and that the club hierarchy are highly unlikely to sanction a sale of the former Rangers player, given that they have no pressing financial need to do so.

However, a major cash offer could tempt the Merseyside club into action as Valencia look to land the engine-room 25-year-old.

Still, should any bid fail, then sporting director Miguel Angel Ruiz will need to look elsewhere. The issue there is that his other avenues - such as Lucho Gonzalez of Porto - have been tagged with "hands-off" warnings.

The search continues.

As for Lucho, he wants Valencia, but he is aware that he can only leave next season and for something close to 30m €.

Valencia are a bunch of cheap Spaniard bastards, so I doubt they'll pay that much

I agree that I don't think Valencia will get Lucho. They are extremely stingy sometimes but when they get desperate they crack. Look at Zigic and Fernandes, both desperation signings costing a total of £22m. I think they'll splash if they're desperate enough.

Agreed. Everyone but Quaresma is up for sale (for the right price of course) however, if he goes to Spain (in the summer), I dont see Valencia spending the required dollars for him.

Zigic was signed right at the opening of the transfer market I think, so I don't consider that to be a desperate signing. Fernandes though, that one I agree, Valencia stole Fernandes from Everton at the airport, that was definitely a panic buy.

But, it won't happen with Lucho, Porto never sells players after the 15th of August

Actually, I think the only player on the transfer list is Quaresma.
Before you think I'm crazy, let me explain this:
Quaresma's contract with Porto runs out at the end of the 08/09 season, which means, if he doesn't renew his contract and doesn't get sold in this up coming summer, he can go for free...

Can't see Arteta going now to be honest. He's the main player in a team that is pushing England's top 4 and he knows it. He will elave one day, and he has said many times he wants to one day play for Atletico but to be honest I can't see that happening in the near future.

Fulham move for Albelda

Fulham are reported to be interested in securing the services of Valencia midfielder David Albelda and could complete the signing by the end of next week.


The deal would see the Spanish international move to Craven Cottage until the end of the season and would double the wages he is currently on at the Mestalla.

Albelda is likely to be interested in the move after recently finding himself axed from the Valencia side by manager Ronald Koeman.

The Dutch coach has now made it clear that the midfielder has no future at the club whilst he is in charge and that he is free to leave.


Euro 2008

The player is keen to have his future resolved as as quickly as possible in order to give him the most amount of time to prove himself ahead of Euro 2008 in the summer.

Newcastle and Middlesbrough are also said to be keen on the Spaniard, but with Albelda only interested in a move to London, the Cottagers would appear to have the upper hand.

I would love to see Albelda in the premiership but I highly doubt he would go to Fulham...just doesn't seem plausible.

Report: Chimbonda Heading To Valencia?

Reports suggest that Tottenham Hotspur full-back Pascal Chimbonda may be a target of Spanish side Valencia...

An £8 million deal for the French full-back may be finalised as early as this week, according to The Mirror.

The former Wigan Athletic defender has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane after on-field dramatics when being substituted last season, as well as a reported outburst when he said he would be leaving the Lilywhites for Newcastle United 'for the money'.

Alan Hutton was signed from Rangers in January by Spurs as a direct replacement for Chimbonda at right-back, with the only available slot for him now on the left, which looks increasingly unlikely to be where he will play next season.

Instead, Unai Emery's rebuilding project at Valencia may well include the Frenchman, though quite whether they would be able to pay as much as £8 million considering their dire financial situation remains to be seen. With Chimbonda clearly a player looking to leave, negotiations may see the pricetag drop before an agreement is reached.

Whether the 29-year-old would replace Miguel at right-back or instead slot in at left-back, a troublesome position for Los Che, is yet to have been made clear.
