I don't think Sevilla or Villarreal could afford Villa. Firstly they couldn't afford his transfer fee of £30m+, or his high wages. Both Sevilla and Villarreal actually have very small season budgets for such successful clubs. Villarreal in 1988 were a semi-professional team and they're a household name now because of their 3rd place finish in 2005 and CL Semi in 2006.

If Villa did leave then the names always linked to him is Chelsea or Liverpool, I think if he did leave next season then it would be to the Premiership.

David Villa Welcomes Rumours, But Flattered By Valencia

Quote:
While David Villa reacted positively to the news that many of Europe's top clubs had been chasing his signature this summer, he was also flattered by Valencia's dogged determination to hold onto the young striker...

Valencia's David Villa seems set to remain at the Mestalla - thanks to his club's refusal to entertain bids for the player.

The Asturian forward, however, is not angry at this. He smiled, "For me, it's flattering that there is so much interest from other clubs.

"However, what is more flattering is that the club rejects them; instead, it wants to keep me and help Valencia continue to progress."

Speaking from the club's training camp in Holland, Villa added that this philosophy was integral to the prospects of Valencian success. He said, "Retaining the players who are key to the club [helps to build] a greater Valencia."

He also went on to praise the new signings - particularly in the defence - who will help Los Che build for next season. Villa was particularly impressed with the younger signings, including ex-Getafe centre back Alexis.

He said, "Young people have arrived with hunger and quality, and desire to become a famous player."

Villa himself is no stranger to that mentality. In his early 20s, he moved from Gijon to Zaragoza in an attempt to progress his own career. Two excellent seasons later, he arrived in Valencia and had to prove once more that he could make the step up.

Few would say that he has not succeeded.

Default Madrid Officially Deny Villa Interest

Spanish sports daily Marca has claimed that Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon is set to swoop for Valencia striker Davild Villa in an attempt to bring more of a Spanish flavour to the team...

Spanish sports daily Marca claims that Ramon Calderon is set to launch an audacious bid for Valencia and Spain hitman David Villa.

The young striker arrived at Los Che from Real Zaragoza in 2005 and has already scored more than 50 goals for the Mestalla side in all competitions.

He is widely commended as being one of Europe's top strikers and, while this is a benefit in itself, Marca claims that Calderon sees another boon: he is Spanish.

Calderon, then, is said to be eager to add a more homegrown identity to his multinational troops, and sees Villa as an ideal way of doing that without in any way sacrificing team quality (indeed, he could very well boost it.)

Valencia have yet to comment on the speculation, but it's already known that the young striker has a minimum release clause of 150 million euros.

With Madrid having spent 120 million euros on a set of players this summer, Calderon, then, may have to exceed this figure next year to land just the one.

The fact that it is Marca that published the story is curious. The top-selling Spanish sports daily this week had a falling-out with Mr. Calderon, who urged his Real Madrid henchmen to boycott the annual Marca party.

This decision was not shared by all at the club, but both sporting director Pedja Mijatovic and coach Bernd Schuster did not attend.

Despite their protestations to the contrary, Calderon's decree was seemingly met with just a hint of bitterness by Marca themselves, perhaps due to these aforementioned absences.

Nonetheless, perhaps any connection between this story and that unfortunate incident remains entirely coincidental.

Default Madrid Officially Deny Villa Interest

Real Madrid have taken the unusual step of issuing a statement denying that they have any interest in signing David Villa from Valencia following recent media speculation.

The Spanish giants posted a message on their official website after days of rumours saw them linked to a move for the Spanish international striker.

With rumours of a package worth €100m circulating and the Madrid players being asked for their reaction after training, the club has moved to quash the story.

"Due to certain information printed in the press, Real Madrid CF wishes to clarify that it never considered the possibility of signing David Villa, despite his extraordinary talents. The Club has never contacted the player or his entourage," the statement read.

"Real Madrid CF has a policy of maintaining good relations with other clubs and it would like to stress that it will never do anything that could hinder those relations."

With Madrid continuously linked to a string of players, the club appears to have adopted this new approach under president Ramón Calderón.

Ovder the summer a paper ran a piece suggesting that Madrid were looking at making an offer for Andrés Iniesta, which moved Los Merengues' president to state that they were not.

It appears that Calderón is keen to maintain strong relations with all the major clubs in Spain and is tired of the press fabricating stories.

I can honestly see him leave Valencia this summer...I know he signed a big contract and that Valencia might regain from by the end of this season....however if they don't he could want to leave to go to another club...especially if they don't qualify for Champions League.

If they don't qualify for CL this year then I could probably see him leaving as well.

I would have said Liverpool if they hadn't got Torres but maybe Chelsea, Milan or slightly outsider is Real Madrid if they want him as a Ruud/Raul replacement.

Injured striker Villa adds to Valencia woes

Quote:

Valencia's misery at getting knocked out of Europe looks set to be compounded with the loss of star striker David Villa for this weekend's home clash against Barcelona.

Villa was forced out of Tuesday's Champions League match against Chelsea shortly after half-time, and tests on Wednesday morning have confirmed the Spain international has a suffered a tear in his thigh muscle.

That is expected to keep Villa out of both the Barcelona match
and next week's Copa del Rey meeting with Real Union, and possibly the club's final game of 2007 against Real Zaragoza.

Valencia coach Ronald Koeman admitted after the clash with Chelsea that they could have done without this latest injury setback.

'It is a big blow to be without him,' said Koeman.

'We have suffered with injuries this season and this is just another blow for us. Villa had a great game and I think we are getting better as a side.'

Although Valencia managed to hold Group B winners Chelsea to a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge, it was not enough to prevent the stuttering Spanish giants from finishing bottom of the standings and tumbling out of Europe.

'We tried to play on the counter-attack but suffered when it came to the final ball,' said Koeman.

'We swapped Vicente and Villa around to help improve the situation and that helped us get better as the game went on.

'We hadn't conceded in our last few games, but we've had seven, eight or nine players out injured this season and this has affected the team.'

Thats why Villa came off...shame I didn't think it was that serious when he came off.

The tactic of swapping villa with vicente was crap... Villa was isolated on the wing and wasn't getting the ball at all...

Counter attack??

they didn't really trouble Cech at all...2 shots on target in the first half and maybe 1 in the second half...they were poor because they didn't test Chelsea at all...however we weren't great because we kept on screwing up all our chances.

Villa put Inter out of the Champions League last year in what may well have been his last top quality performance.

I hope that's not his last great performance. I'll still back him to get back to form whether it's in a Valencia shirt or elsewhere next season.
