Racing Santander drags Valencia to court
Valencias lawyers sure got their work cut out for them.. still working on the Benitez case, the Ranieri case, the Jose Enrique case (youngster taken from Alicante) and now Mario Regueiro.
The player joined Valencia last month on a free transfer after rejecting a contract extension by Santander. There's a new regulation (from last year) that states if a player is out of contract but is offered a contract extension but rejects it and signs for another club, the former club can demand a compensation fee. Santander wants a fee in the region of €1.5M but so far Valencia have refused to pay, claiming that he signed for Valencia before being offered the extension by Santander.

I believe it's a rule that the spanish football federation made and it only applies in Spain. I'm not sure though!
i'm quite good with the forums as it is now because I like to read and post about other teams too! but thanx anyway! Maybe in the future when more Valencia fans finds their way to this wonderful board!

He's probably supposed to be backup to Vicente as they play in the same position. He's 27 years old so he's certainly no kid

I think Vicente will leave when he's around 30 years old and looking for a new sporting challenge. I don't think he'll leave sooner (i hope) because he is born and raised in the city of Valencia, he has all his friends and family here and is on a good contract which ties him to Valencia to 2011. He is also amongst the top earners in Valencia so he will only leave when he feels he is ready for a new sporting challenge. But... we all know that the board of Valencia has the IQ of a child. Combined. So who knows they might force him out of the club some day..

An update on this situation. This rule we discussed only applies if the player goes from a spanish club to another spanish club. In this case apparently Regueiro signed for Cruz Azul, only to have the contract mutual abandoned and then signed for Valencia. This was, ofcourse, all planned between Cruz Azul and Valencia so therefor no fee can be demanded by Racing Santander and Regueiro were this week finally registered with the La Liga officials as a Valencia player!
