USA to face Argentina, France again in FIFA Women’s Under-20 World Cup

9/15/2008 - SANTIAGO, Chile _ Former champion and three-time semifinalist USA will face two-time runner-up China PR, Argentina and France in the opening round of the FIFA Women’s Under-20 World Cup, pitting the Stars & Stripes against two of their three adversaries from 2006.

The USA was placed in Group B at Saturday’s draw for the 19 November-7 December event in Chile, rejoining Argentina and France, which formed the core of Group D in 2006. The USA finished fourth in 2006 in Russia, losing on penalties to Brazil in the third-place match.

CONCACAF champion Canada, World Cup runner-up at home in 2002 to the United States, was placed in Group C with Japan, Congo DR and Germany, while Mexico was drawn into Group D with Norway, Brazil and defending champion Korea DPR.

The USA will open against France on 19 November in Chillan, Chile, the second game of a doubleheader with China-Argentina. The following day will see both Canada begin against Japan in Santiago, and Mexico against Norway in Temuco.
