we might have to face Mexico in the quarter finals

Donovan Wary Of El Tricolor 13/06/07

U.S. National Team star Landon Donovan wasn’t exactly sure how to feel about Mexico’s Gold Cup loss to Honduras, and figures that it may even make their arch rivals more dangerous as the tourney wears on.

A loss or draw against Panama on Wednesday would suddenly see the tournament’s co-favorites meeting up in the quarterfinals.

"I was happy they lost," Donovan told the Boston Globe of his initial impulse. "Then I thought 'oh my God, we could be playing them Saturday' - that would be awesome, I would love it."

Of course, the Galaxy man quickly wandered from feeling Schadenfreude to concern.

"Mexico is struggling, but they could win four in a row," warned Donovan. "You can't count them out, but they need to sort something out - they've got to win."

A regional champion will be crowned this June as Fox Soccer Channel airs exclusive live coverage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2007. Tune into FSC to catch the U.S. Men’s National Team in action:

[His Donovan playing in the Copa America?]

I don't think Donovan wants to play in Copa America. He has gone on record as saying he wants to be here with Beckham and feels obliged to help his club team, as Copa America is not a CONCACAF tourney. I don't have a problem with that. I wouldn't mind seeing a predominantly Euro based squad go...perhaps with some of the second tier MLS guys (guess guys like Michael Bradley will be at the U-20 in Canada.

Don't mean to offend anyone, but the tourney is taking place in Venezuela, right? Geez, not that we don't have enough trouble travelling abroad, but could you find a more hostile place towards the US in the Western Hemisphere? Seems like there is a tremendous amount of unrest there right now...wonder if that will impact the tourney at all.

Lol Venezuela isnt all that bad.I am actually rooting for Venezuela to take the tournament just because of all the troubles they have had with their president and everything else.Maybe if Venezuela wins Chavez will turn all nice.

I believe Donovan has confirmed that he will be in Copa America. Bocanegra however has backed out.

It was a pk the goalies hand came over and hit donovan...you cant do that!

Also donovan should have had 34 last night too but he wiffed on the ball trying to rush the shot..should have too his time and finessed the ball into the net...no biggie though he will get it...maybe even in the next game!

That was classic too. He just swung over the ball and fell on his ass. I need a vid of that.
