I gotta say I like Tino Palace's response to this qoute the best:
"So the Americans fall 1-0 in Amsterdam, and The Bruce rightfully says the better team won. True. But from the other locker room, Dutch manager Dick Advocaat blamed the “conservative” Americans for not “inspiring” the Oranje to play better, and that the friendly’s original opponent, Germany, would have provided a match with “enthusiasm and prestige.”

Two words, Dick: Inspire this.

Any team in their right mind, U.S. or otherwise, who goes into Amsterdam against the stacked Dutch is not gonna come out guns blazing, are they now, Dickie? I gotta believe that includes the almighty Germans, so superior to the Americans they were a deserved handball call away from facing a possible World Cup ouster from the Yanks two summers ago.

So, Dickie, you best find a way to “inspire” all those million-dollar studs all by your lonesome, unless Holland wants to sit and watch the later rounds of Euro ’04, much like they did World Cup 2002. Talent is a terrible thing to waste, isn’t it Dickie? "

Maybe they'd do better if they didn't play in those damn wooden shoes.

"We missed some sharpness tonight and performing against such conservative opponents didn't inspire us. We were supposed to meet the Germans tonight and then we'd have had a match with enthusiasm and prestige. My defense did well, but the rest did not perform as expected."
-- Netherlands coach Dick Advocaat after his team's 1-0 over the USA in a friendly Wednesday in Amsterdam.

"I thought we had a pretty good effort tonight, but [Arjen] Robben scored a great goal. Even though we passed poorly and their pressure on the ball was exceptional, we did create some good quality chances in the second half. This is the first time that this group has been together since the World Cup, and to play this well I was very pleased. But let's be fair, I think the better team won the game."
-- U.S. coach Bruce Arena.

we basically playing with MLS players, I don't think Arena will have the Euro players make the long trip back and forth for a friendly
