Nakamura is better than Karimi imo...not by much, but enough.

I saw them thoroughly outplay Brazil in the Confed Cup last summer though...they can pass the ball beautifully.

Admittedly a while now...but I have heard he is going well. He is a talent and will be a standout at the WC imo.

It actually was a hyper competitive tournament, the US actually fielded less first 11 players than most squads outside Mexico. Panama, Guatemala, Canada all brough their A teams and were quickly stuffed backwards. Saw most of the tournament live, and there were some great matches, but you could just tell even with the US using 2nd tear players at times they were still miles ahead. Yes this is part of the reason noone respects the US, is because we rarely are tested against better teams, due to our locations, which is why there are at least tlakings of trying to join the South American and North American conferences, but the little countries would probably never go for it

All these teams have first XI's superior on paper or in some cases at least as good as the US.
Maybe I am biased (Okay I definetly am ) But anyways, I personally would stick the US right in the Japan, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ireland group area, I'd have Sweden ahead and Mexico below us (we have made them our bitch recently its not even funny, okay it is cause its fun to see the mexicans whining on the spanish channels in the US when they lose to us...repeatedly).

We wouldn't miss out on the tournaments with 8 spots I think it would be, we would still qualify each time, spots that like Costa Rica and TNT would take would probably go to south american countries though. And we miss out on lots of tournaments because we are in a small conference too

And Poland is 28th.. despite the two losses to the USA, both of which Poland suffered because of a squad made up of young players. Poland is clearly the better team, and has more talented players. Shows that this ranking system is rubbish, to hell with it.

Default USA Latest news, scores, etc.

this just come out on the www.socceramerica.com

By Ridge Mahoney

The best thing that can be said about the first of three warm-up matches before the U.S. team leaves for Germany is that it's over. Conceding a late goal to lose, 1-0, is just the slap in the face the players deserved for this performance.

Coach Bruce Arena cited heavy legs as a contributing factor and no doubt the players will be fresher and sharper when they step on the field June 12 against the Czech Republic, whose coach Karl Bruckner won’t be intimidated on the evidence this game presented.

Still, an appalling lack of cohesion plagued the Americans for much of the match. Speed and work rate are among the team's attributes, but they aren't the only attributes, and while the spirited Moroccans chased and worked willingly, all too rarely were the Americans operating in sync to create and cover for each other.

A encouraging first half from John O'Brien and a stalwart performance by midfield mate Pablo Mastroeni, who replaced Claudio Reyna after a quarter of an hour, were the brightest performances.

An MRI scan of Reyna's right hamstring on Wednesday revealed there was no muscle damage, but the team staff did not put a time frame on when he will return to training.

A few chances were squandered, such as an Eddie Johnson header over the bar and a pair of Landon Donovan efforts: he just failed to make significant contact with a clever O'Brien chip and later drilled a hard shot the goalkeeper parried. Josh Wolff also fired a ball that Tarek El Jarmouni handled.

In terms of possession, the Americans did enough to score, but score they didn't, and punishment came in stoppage time when Steve Cherundolo, who'd moved from right back up into midfield when the U.S. changed to a three-man back line at halftime, foolishly turned the ball over in his own half and Morocco turned the miscue into a goal.

Cherundolo, who was obviously fatigued, was trying to keep the ball in play, to his credit, and readily admitted the safe recourse was to boot it out of play. A few seconds elapsed after Bouchaib El Moubarki stripped away the ball, yet Cory Gibbs and Eddie Pope were gassed and none of the subs got back in time either. Moubarki's square pass ran to a wide-open Mohamed Madihi, who stabbed it high into the net.

Had the U.S. imposed its skill and guile on Morocco during the previous 90 minutes and scored a goal, Madihi's strike wouldn’t have tasted so bitter, or seemed so unjust. Yet of the two teams, Morocco was the craftier, and created and converted the best chance of the game to decide the outcome. Many World Cup matches follow the same course.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

"Bruce [Arena] was the first guy I met that I figured if people don't like me for being a smart ass, I'll hang around with him and they'll think I'm Mother Teresa."
-- Geno Auriemma, UConn women's basketball coach, reflects on arriving at the University of Virginia in 1981 as assistant basketball coach and running into Virginia’s men's soccer coach Bruce Arena. (Hartford Courant)

.. WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

"It's irritating not to know. Of course it's better to know. It helps you
get your mind set. It wouldn't matter to me if I'm on the right, the left or
the middle. But I don't even know if I'll even be playing the first game. He
hasn't made up his lineup."
-- U.S. midfielder DaMarcus Beasley on the fact that Coach Bruce Arena has
yet to tell his players the starting lineup of the USA's June 12 opener
against the Czech Republic. (Reuters)

2. WORLD CUP: Captain Reyna returns to full training

U.S. captain Claudio Reyna, who suffered a hamstring injury during the USA's 1-0 loss to Morocco May 23, returned to training with the team in Hamburg Saturday.
"Claudio was fully active today in our training session," said U.S. coach Bruce Arena. "As far as I'm concerned, he's pretty close to fully fit."
Arena also said of the 32-year-old Reyna: "He's like a fine wine. He gets better with age. He's more experienced, more confident, and I think more prepared for this World Cup than the last one.
"I just think he knows that this is one of his last great opportunities as a player, and he wants to make the most of it. I think he's really going to be ready on June 12 to play as well as he can possibly play."
During the 2002 World Cup, Reyna played wide in the midfield and both as an attacking and defensive midfielder. In Hamburg, he told the press: "As players come and go into the team, I think I just try to find my role in the team. Previously, I was probably more of an attacking player. And now, I still have a responsibility to control the tempo of the game, when to slow it down and speed it up."
On Monday, the Americans beat fellow World Cup team Angola, 1-0, on a Brian McBride in a closed-door scrimmage. U.S. Soccer would not say whether Reyna played, but an Angola spokesperson said Reyna played and was impressive. Angola played with 10 men after Loco was sent off in the first half.
"To go from our last game against Latvia to our first game against the Czech Republic would be too long without a competitive situation," assistant coach Glenn Myernick said. "It will add a little bit to match fitness, and anytime you can play it's better than any training session that we can put on.
"In terms of the intensity of the games, you want that to replicate game situations. At the same time both teams understand 'let's be competitive but let's not be foolish in our challenges.'"
Angola opens Group D play against Portugal.

A 532 would work well against the Czechs...who have you got that can play left wing back...Cherundulo being the right wing back.
