I was surprised to see no Eddie Gaven on the list.

For those of us that are hockey fans we hope for the same news. The biggest losers for any kind of strike or lockout are first the workers who gain employment from the sport. The second are the fans who have years invested in their team.

I'm seeing it in hockey and it stinks -- I'm glad it was averted in soccer. It has no place in any sport.

So no strike or lockout for 2005. Does this mean after the US players and team qualify for the World Cup at the end of this year, then they will strike before the WC to get that money they want and deserve? I mean for Reyna to fly on his own dime for the last decade to play for the selection is nuts. I know of other national teams where they specifically have an agent who books the flights for the players when they are called and either pays for it or they are reimbursed.

Maybe eddie isn't 100% yet, and Bradley wants him ready for the season? Only thing I can think of...

WORLD CUP QUALIFYING: Arena's roster set for T&T clash

By Ridge Mahoney in Miami

Thirteen MLS players and 10 taken from the European ranks will comprise the squad from which Coach Bruce Arena will select the 18 players to face Trinidad & Tobago in Port of Spain Wednesday in the first game of the CONCACAF World Cup final-round qualifying.

Forwards Brian Ching, Eddie Johnson and Clint Mathis head the domestic group, which trained for 12 days at the Home Depot Center before heading east. Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley, and Brian McBride were among the European-based players who traveled Sunday and trained at the University of Miami Sunday afternoon.

Most of the available players trained Sunday, although defender Eddie Pope stayed behind at the team hotel and Steve Cherundolo did not participate in some of the sessions. Arena said Pope, " wasn't feeling well."

Eddie Lewis and Kasey Keller were expected to join the team Monday for training and the team's departure by charter jet for Port of Spain. The team will train in Port of Spain Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 local time (2:30 Eastern), after which Arena will name his game list of 18 players.

Keller, who started seven of eight qualifiers last year, played for Borussia Moenchengladbach Sunday afternoon in a 3-2 victory and if healthy will get the start in goal. Tim Howard of Manchester United was not named to the team; Marcus Hahnemann of Reading and Joe Cannon of Colorado will vie for the backup spot.

Brad Friedel, who started all five games at the 2002 World Cup but has played only once since then, has announced his retirement from the national team.

Goalkeepers
Joe Cannon (Colorado)
Marcus Hahnemann (Reading, ENG)
Kasey Keller (M'Gladbach, GER)

Frankie Hejduk (Columbus)
Eddie Pope (Salt Lake)

Midfielders

Clint Dempsey (New England)
Landon Donovan (Bayer Leverkusen, GER)
Eddie Lewis (Preston, ENG)
Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado)
Clint Mathis (Salt Lake)
Ben Olsen (D.C. United)

Pretty solid squad. I guess Convey's lack of playing time at Reading is hurting his national team play. Surprised that Conor Casey was left off, he's impressed me every time I've seen him. Hopefully Eddie will get a start up front next to McBride.

Is anyone watching it during the day? Or taping it and watching later? I'm watching it live.
