The way you move up, is by beating high ranked talent. For example, I think Mexico has beaten Argentina and Brazil, thus the reason for their higher ranking. I personally don't like it, and it makes little sense to me.

You get points when you win or draw, and get points get docked, when you lose, especially to a lesser ranked team.

Default USA in the Copa America?

Well just wondering why are the usa not in the copa america, we have costa rica and mexico in there why not the usa?

Its just so boring to watch at the moment with just so little teams in there, will the usa ever be in it and this will also bring the intrest of the country as they have chance of winning something.

The US has particpated in two Copa America events (if they were in more I'm not sure). In the 1995 they finished fourth. They lost the third place game 4:1 to Columbia.

In 1993 they did not make it out the groups stages.

They have turned down invitations a few times. I personally can't get excited about the event ( NO disrespect intended to any memebers from the Copa countries) -- but there is no disputing that it would be a good test for the US squad. However with an already crowded international calender and the MLS playing a summer schedule I don't see them appearing too often.

I am not a fan of inviting outside teams to your regional championship. CONCACAF does it too for the Gold Cup and it just doesn't sit well with me -- just a personal opinion and therefore not worth much.

soccer isn't popular in america due to the fact baseball, basketball and american football have had a longer staying power in u.s. sports than soccer has. Americans also love violence so the physicallity of our football has made it the #1. Basketball is the top sport of inner cities in of the u.s.a. Baseball is nicknamed the national passtime.

Considering the national team didn't make a world cup between 1930 and 1990 also didn't help soccer take off in america. A major soccer league was also missing until MLS came around. A failed atempt at one in the 1970's, which featured the great Pele on the New York Cosmos, (not too sure on details... wasn't born until the late 80's hehe) but I believe MLS will be around a bit longer.

Women's soccer really isn't as popular. The '99 world cup blew women's soccer popularity way out of proportion. No other major sporting events were going on during 1999, and baseball still hadn't regained its former popularity after the 1994 strike (just now is it close to being back to before that strike). That and it gave everyone in America no matter what something to cheer for. The women's league folded after 3 seasons... the men's league is going strong since '96.

Please don't take this the wrong way but I hope USA never win the world cup.Americans to me are very arrogant and they just wanna be the best in everything I really dont want the real Football to be taken over by America.I know theres some nice americans but stick to fake football and baseball the two worst sports in the world.American football is just a pansy ripoff of Rugby and Baseball is just a sleeper.

It would be difficult to have teams based further north. I live in Wisconsin and January and February are tough months here. We had 14 straight days of -12C or colder this January (then 3 days later in the month of -18 C and lower.

Similar to why Norway plays a season close to ours.
