UCLA BRUINS- Brad Friedel. Cobi Jones and others
UCLA - Adolfo Gregorio
Adolfo Gregorio
was a USA U17 in 1999 at the same time as Donovan and Beardsley. he choose to stay in College and his favor to win the Herman throphy for best player in College, he should be choose in the Superdraft in the top 10, his a portuguese american and he plays a lot like Cristiano Ronaldo
I believe his daddy played for Benfica in Portugal in the 70's.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There was a nice article in the latest SoccerAmerica on UCLA that touched on this.
Gregorio is first generation American (parents from Portugal) and wants to be the first person from his family to graduate from college.
Basically, he put education first and as much as I love this game and think coming out early helps your development, I can never fault a player for wanting to finish school, especially with the paltry MLS money that is offered.
I think those of us who have lots of people in our families older than us that have graduated from college forget or never know how much it means to have someone in your family finally get the degree, especially from a good school like UCLA. I know I lose site of that a lot as both my parents and all my grandparents and most of my great grandparents were college grads.
At the end of the day, it's his life and he has to live it. I think not turning pro after last year likely cost him any legitimate shot he has at the Olympics but I really don't think it will hurt his pro career that much. He should be a first round draft pick or, with his folks being from Portugal, be over to use that EU passport (which is like gold) and play over there.

UCLA 4-Virginia-0
Gregorio was the star of the game, and the national team coach Arena, U20 Rongen were at the game,
4-0 UCLA when I left with 4 minutes left. Not a bad game. UCLA looked the better team but UVA did some nice things, especially after falling behind early and continued to have a bit more possession until the middle of the second half. UVA just really wasn't too dangerous and UCLA's gk Wells ate up everything in the box. UCLA's Gregorio assisted on the first goal, a diving header, and scored the second on a cross/shot that caught the post. The game opened up after that with UCLA's Enfield and Barrett finding a lot of room to run at the UVA defense. Virginia's #16 Hall had a great first half at center mid but fell off a bit in the second. Bruce Arena, Thomas Rongen and LA's Ralph Perez were all at the game.

UCLA University
2. COLLEGE: Tom Fitzgerald resigns as UCLA head coach
Tom Fitzgerald is leaving UCLA after two years of serving as head coach and announced he will coach at the University of Tampa, where he was head coach in 1987-95.
Fitzgerald, who coached MLS's Columbus Crew for six seasons (1996-2001), guided UCLA to the 2002 NCAA Division I title. Last season, UCLA won its second Pac-10 title under Fitzgerald while becoming the first team to record a perfect 10-0-0 record in that conference.
Fitzgerald, whose family lives in Tampa, guided the University of Tampa to the 1994 NCAA Division II title.
"The main reason I'm leaving is because my wife and I have seen our [two] kids and grandson twice in the past 16 months," Fitzgerald told the St. Petersburg Times. "We spent a long time in Tampa. It was difficult to leave and not come back."
Dawson Driscoll resigned as University of Tampa coach with four games left in the 2003 season.

UCLA BRUINS
UCLA added to what was already arguably the best recruiting class in the country when it signed U.S. U-18 national team goalkeeper Brian Perk and former U-18 forward Anthony Beltran. Perk has been in residency in Bradenton, while fellow California Beltran spent his freshman season at St. John’s, where scored two goals and three assists in 21 games

he was part of the U 17 team the did so well in Autralia a 3rd place finish with Donovan, Beardsley, Martino, Barmakian, Oneyu, Convey, etc,
was with Real Salt lake but that was the last time I hear anything about Adolfo di Gregorio, he had to be the big disappointment along with the goalkeeper,

UCLA makes it official. No Arvizu though, so I guess he's still in play for MLS.

Eric Reed UCLA keeper 2nd draft pick
Carolina RailHawks
USL-1 College Player Draft
Carolina takes Abolaji, California selects Reed
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
USL NEWS RELEASE
Wednesday, January 24, 2006
TAMPA, FL -- The expansion Carolina RailHawks selected Sola Abolaji as the first overall selection in the 2007 USL First Division College Player Draft Wednesday afternoon with fellow first-year club California Victory taking standout PDL goalkeeper Eric Reed with the second overall selection.
A former midfielder for the Premier Development League’s Boulder Rapids Reserve, Abolaji just completed his collegiate career at Buffalo University where he played in 33 games the past two seasons with three goals and four assists. He previously attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College where he was named second-team All-Region and Team Defensive MVP. The Denver native has returned home the past two summers and spent time with the Rapids Reserve.
UCLA product Eric Reed is well known in USL circles for his outstanding play with the Southern California Seahorses over the past three seasons. The 2006 PDL Goalkeeper of the Year led the league with a 0.62 goals against average as well as the top shutout total with 10 after finishing fifth in GAA in 2005 with a 1.10 average. He was also third in wins with 12. He was an All-League selection for the first time and All-Conference for the second, having previously been honored in 2004.
Seventeen of the 26 players selected played in the PDL over the past four years. Ten players participated in the USL Men’s Player Showcase held in December.
