don't look good for St. Peter's after a 18 win season
they lost to Hofstra 1-0
PEACOCKS FALL IN OPENER, 1-0
HEMPSTEAD, NY (Sept. 1)--Hofstra's Pablo Lara scored the games only goal with less than 17 minutes to play in a 1- win over visiting Saint Peter's Wednesday night. It was the season opener for both teams.
The Peacocks outshot Hofstra, 14-6, but Lara managed the only tally of the game, assisted by Paulo Walters and Edison Lara. Matthias Gumbrecht had four saves in the shutout for Hofstra. Saint Peter's goalkeeper Pat Nagawiecki made four stops, as well.
The Peacocks will visit Seton Hall on Saturday at 1 pm.

St. Peters -1-Seton Hall-1 2 O/t
PEACOCKS TIE #20 SETON HALL, 1-1 (2 ot)
SOUTH ORANGE (Sept. 4)--Visiting Saint Peter's and Seton Hall, ranked #20 in the national Soccer America Preseason Division I poll, played to a 1-1 double overtime tie Saturday afternoon.
Saint Peter's (0-1-1) got on the board first, thanks to the first college goal for freshman Murphy Wiredu in the first half. But the Pirates (1-0-1) fought back to knot the score late in the second half. Seton Hall got the equalizer playing a man short. The teams played through two scoreless 15-minute overtime sessions.
The Peacocks are off until September 15, when they visit the University of Connecticut.

MURPHY'S LAW
Wiredu scores extra-time winner for St. Peter's
Easton, Pa. -- Saint Peter's College senior Murphy Wiredu scored in the 98th minute Friday to give the Peacocks a 3-2 overtime win over La Salle at Lafayette College. Wiredu scored off an assist from Lebogang Pila to give Saint Peter's the victory. Matt Lawlor made eight saves in goal for his first win of the season.
Rumen Kerekov opened up the scoring in the game scoring an unassisted goal in the 13th minute to give Saint Peter's a 1-0 lead. The Explorers responded eight minutes later, tying the game at 1-1.
Hermann Trophy candidate Juan Gaviria scored his first goal of the season in the 25th minute off a Wiredu assist to give the Peacocks a 2-1 lead, which they took into halftime.
In the 56th minute, La Salle once again tied the game and it remainded that way for the rest of regulation. In the extra session, Pila found Wiredu who scored the dramatic golden goal.
The win marks the first for rookie head coach Guy Abrahamson. Gaviria's goal was the 35th of his career and put him into a tie for second on the all-time goals list with Alex Zecca. Wiredu's goal puts him in a tie for ninth all-time with 23 career tallys. Pila and Kerekov recorded their first points of their Peacock career.
Saint Peter's will have the day off tomorrow before taking on host Lafayette at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Peacocks Extinguish Dragons in Philadelphia
Date: Tuesday, September 16, 2008 7:00pm (Away)
Opponent: Drexel
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Final Score: W 2-0 | Box Score
Scoring Summary: Naim (DeAbreu), Pelts (Naim)
Recap:
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Saint Peter's College Peacocks (2-2-2) scored a goal in the first five minutes of each half and staved off a furious Drexel University Dragons (2-2-2) offense this evening in a 2-0 victory at Vidas Field. The Peacocks were outshot 20-9 by the Dragons and played the final 36-minutes shorthanded, but Hernando Santamaria made seven saves and Udi Naim and Dmitry Pelts provided the offense to get Saint Peter's back to .500. "The team put forth a solid effort tonight and we are happy to get the win and the shutout," commented Head Coach Guy Abrahamson after the game. "Playing the final 36-minutes a man down was tough, but the team stayed together and Hernando played excellent in goal again."
Saint Peter's scored right out of the gate as Chris DeAbreu found Naim in the box. Naim made a circus play, kicking the ball over his head and past the goalkeeper at 4:01 to give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead. The Peacocks had just four shots for the rest of the half, while Drexel took eight shots, three of which required saves by Santamaria. Each team had just one corner kick in the first half and the Peacocks went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Saint Peter's scored a quick insurance goal to start the second half as Naim found Pelts who chipped the ball into the Drexel net for a 2-0 lead at 50:08. Drexel then took control of the action as they recorded 12 shots and took five corner kicks in the second frame. The Peacocks effort became harder at the 53:24 mark when one their players was issued a red card and was ejected from the contest. Saint Peter's played the final 36-minutes a man down, but strong defensive plays and four saves by Santamaria preserved the win and the Peacocks third shutout of the season.
Saint Peter's will return to action on Saturday night as they travel to Garden City, NY to take on the Adelphi University Panthers at 7pm.
