CROWD COUNT
4. Lobos pack ‘em in

The UNM Soccer Complex in Albuquerque, N.M., is quickly becoming one of men’s soccer’s hot spots. Unbeaten New Mexico drew 4,106 fans – the second largest crowd in Lobos’ history -- for the 3-2 victory over Wisconsin Friday on the first night of the TLC Plumbing and Utility Invite.

Welcome to Soccer America's COLLEGE SOCCER REPORTER, a benefit for Soccer America members. COLLEGE SOCCER REPORTER, your briefing on the national college scene, is published Monday-Friday during the college season and weekly during the offseason.

MONDAY, TAKE 2
1. What They’re Saying
2. No. 1 Lobos romp in Tulsa
3. Big three remains perfect
4. Women’s Hermann watch
5. Crowd Count
6. Upset Central
7. Top 25 Scores & Goalscorers
*COLLEGE SOCCER ON TELEVISION: Your Viewing Guide

(Monday, Take 1, with complete Top 25 weekend scores & goalscorers was sent earlier today.)

1. WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

"I do not even remember the goal and I remember everything.”
-- Freshman Kyle Williams after being mobbed by teammates following his golden goal that gave Bowling Green a 3-2 victory over No. 13 Ohio State and snap a 25-game winless streak that extended back to the 2003 season.

MEN’S WEEKEND WRAPUP
2. No. 1 Lobos romp in Tulsa

LOS LOBOS. New Zealand defender Andrew Boyens’ golden goal gave No. 1 New Mexico a 2-1 victory over host Tulsa and extended the Lobos’ winning streak to eight games. NMU also beat SMU, 2-0, on a pair of goals by freshman Chris Wright and won the Microtel Inn & Suites/Golden Hurricane Classic.
PERFECT STARTS. New Mexico (8-0-0) and No. 11 Akron are the only remaining unbeaten and untied teams in the Division I men’s ranks. Buffalo fell for the first time when it lost to St. Francis (Pa.), 1-0.
HIGH-FLYING FALCONS. Fred Thompson, the former George Mason star from the 1980s, didn’t exactly get off to a flying start as Bowling Green head coach. The Falcons went 0-19-0 in his first season as head coach and started 0-5-1 in 2005, but they are on a roll now. BHSU upset No. 13 Ohio State, 3-2, in overtime Friday for Thompson’s first win and followed that up two days later with a 3-1 win over visiting St. Mary’s.

MEN’S TOP 25 SPOTLIGHT
3. Ostrich and the Bears

The hottest team on the West Coast is No. 3 California.
The Bears (7-0-1) won all four tournaments they’ve entered this season and move into Pac-10 play this weekend with an excellent of winning their first conference title.
Senior Calen Carr, nicknamed “The Ostrich” for the ostrich dance he breaks into after goals, has been red-hot, scoring in Cal’s last four games, all wins. Carr is coming off a great summer for PDL semifinalist Orange County Blue Star, for which he scored eight goals in nine games.
Tyson Wahl, who also played for the Blue Star, has scored three goals – all on penalties – to match his total for his first three seasons.
Cal is one of the most experienced teams in the country with eight upperclassmen as starters. Coach Kevin Grimes, the former SMU and U.S. national team player, brought in eight freshmen, all from California youth club powers, but only one, Pateadores product Tyler Barry, has started.
CLASS BREAKDOWN: 5 seniors, 3 juniors, 2 sophomores, 1 freshman (starters vs. Army 9/25)
GEOGRAPHIC MAKEUP: California (11).
ON DECK: The Bears open Pac-10 play on the road Friday night at UCLA, then face unbeaten San Diego State in San Diego on Sunday. They finish the 10-game Pac-10 season with home games against SDSU (Nov. 4), UCLA (Nov. 6) and Stanford (Nov. 13).
