A-League Montreal Impact
I believe these kid Sutton was born in the USA, and he starter with the Chicago Fire
Sutton Eyes Club Record 27/07/04
Greg Sutton has 12 shutouts so far this year and he is only one away from the club record of 13 in a season, set in 1996 by Paolo Ceccarelli. The Impact goalkeeper could therefore tie the record this Wednesday night, as Montreal will be hosting the Charleston Battery at Claude Robillard Sports Complex (7:30 pm, CJAD, CKAC).
"It’s a good accomplishment for the team, it reflects our solid defensive play and the success we’ve had in the back all year long," commented Sutton about his 12 shutouts, a personal high.
Patrick Leduc insists, however, that Sutton has played an important role in the team’s defensive success. The Impact has only allowed 11 goals in 20 games so far, compared to 16 goals after 20 match-ups in 2003. The improvement has come in spite of the long-term absences of Jason DiTullio, David Fronimadis and Abraham François, all defenders with torn ACLs.
"He improves from year to year, especially in the way he manages a game," said Leduc about Sutton. "He knows how to talk to the players to avoid mistakes. That’s how he’s become of the main leaders on the team."
In addition to his ability to make the key saves, Leduc praised Sutton’s confidence when comes time to intercept balls that come through his area.
"Whether it’s a corner or a cross, everything that floats through, we know he’s going to get it," said Leduc. "He controls the penalty area. He makes our job easier, and that gives more freedom to the defenders."
Sutton admits he has perfected his pre-game preparation, especially the mental aspect.
"Concentration is a big part of the goalkeeper’s performance," explained Sutton. "I visualize certain game situations. For example, I visualize a corner kick and see myself coming out for it, or I see an opponent getting ready to shoot and me making the save. It’s very similar to what hockey goaltenders do."
Sutton also pointed out that his team’s defensive performance has not hampered the Impact offence from scoring timely goals. Montreal has a goal differential of plus-18 after 20 games, compared to plus-14 last year at the same time.
"Guys have it in their heads to support each other defensively, but offensively as well," noted Sutton. "They all understand their role and also know when the time is right to move forward, and when it’s time to get back."

SCOUTING TRIP FOR IMPACT HEAD COACH NICK DE SANTIS
MONTREAL – Montreal Impact head coach Nick De Santis will be in Florida, Saturday, to attend the first United Soccer Leagues Men’s Player Showcase, at Ed Radice Soccer Complex in Tampa, which will be held from December 17th to the 20th.
De Santis will have the chance to observe the top U-23 players from all over North America, during organized training sessions and games.
“It’s great that the league organizes such an event,” said De Santis. “We will be able to evaluate players that we would otherwise not have the chance to see. There will certainly be great young talented players present.”
“We will not be looking to fill any particular position,” added De Santis. “Instead, we will try to add some depth to our team and to build for the future. But you never know, we could be impressed by a young player that could help us in the near future.”
The USL accepted 192 candidates after reviewing 324 applications received over the last few months. All USL D1 club managers, as well as managers from Premier League clubs (England) like Fulham, Crystal Palace and Chelsea, will be attending the event.
SCOUTING IN ARGENTINA
The Impact head coach could also be in Argentina in February for another scouting trip. Last season, De Santis had spotted midfielder Leonardo Di Lorenzo during a 10-day stint in Argentina.
Di Lorenzo went on to sign a one-year deal with option with the Impact and was proclaimed the club’s Newcomer of the Year after having tallying two goals and six assists for 10 points, the second highest total among Impact players.

This is awsome its good to see other teams other than the Islanders looking for talent abroad.

GEORDIE LYALL SIGNS WITH ENGLAND’S WALSALL
« Back
December 20, 2006 - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that defender Geordie Lyall has agreed to terms with Walsall FC of England’s Football League Two. Lyall’s contract will run until the end of the Saddlers season; however, due to transfer regulations, he will be unavailable for first-team contention until the transfer window re-opens in January.
“For the past eight years Geordie has been a big part of the organization with his contributions both on and off the field,” said Whitecaps Director of Soccer Operations Bob Lenarduzzi. “We are excited for him and wish him the best of luck.”
“Geordie works hard day in, day out and was instrumental in last year’s championship run,” added Whitecaps head coach Bob Lilley. “His great pace and strong work ethic will be missed; however, this will be a great opportunity for our young talent to compete for a more prominent role in the club. As well, we will continue to look outside the organization for new prospects."
Lyall, who was originally signed by Vancouver as a member of the reserves in 1999 from the University of Victoria, has been a regular fixture in Vancouver’s backline since seeing first team duty in the second half of the 1999 season. In 2002, Lyall was named Vancouver's Defender of the Year by the Supporter's Club and last year he was a member of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) First Division All-League First Team and was nominated for the USL First Division Defender of the Year. The 30-year-old right-back has scored five goals and added four assists in 162 games for the Whitecaps.
"I really enjoyed my time in Vancouver I am thankful to the organization, my teammates and the fans for a wonderful eight years,” said Lyall. “It has always been an ambition of mine to play football in Europe and I felt now was the right time to explore my options. I am looking forward to this new challenge.”
Formed in 1888, Walsall FC plays out of the 11,300-seat Bescot Stadium. Currently the Saddlers are in first place in England’s Football League Two with 14 wins, six draws and two losses for 48 points.

ex MLS Matt Jordan to the Impact
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
United Soccer Leagues (USL)
Tuesday, March 20, 2007
MONTREAL, QUE -- The Montreal Impact announced, Monday, the signing of goalkeeper Matt Jordan for the next two seasons, while forward Massimo Di Ioia signed a three-year contract with the team. The club also announced that assistant coaches Peter Pinizzotto and Youssef Dahha have renewed their agreement with the club for the 2007 season.
Matt Jordan, a native of Denver, Colorado, played eight seasons with Major League Soccer (MLS) and has also played in Denmark with first division club Odense Boldklub (Superligua). The 31-year old veteran goalkeeper played his best seasons from 1999 to 2002, playing 113 games and more than 10,000 minutes with the Dallas Burn. He also played for the Columbus Crew (2004 and 2005) and the Colorado Rapids (2006).
“We were looking for a goalkeeper with experience to help Andrew (Weber) who is still young,” said Nick De Santis. “Jordan has shown great skills in the MLS. His attitude and his leadership will help us. Both goalkeepers will fight positively for the number one spot.”
MASSIMO DI IOIA SIGNS THREE-YEAR AGREEMENT
Di Ioia, a 19-year-old Montreal native, made his USL First Division debut with the Impact in 2006. In his rookie season last year, he scored a goal and added an assist in 15 games and 516 minutes played.
Before joining the Impact, Di Ioia played with the Montreal-Concordia AAA Soccer Elite Club from U14 to U18 and with the National Training Centre. In fact, he will be part of the upcoming FIFA U20 World Cup, which will take place in Canada this summer.
“We’re happy to have signed a long-term deal with him,” said De Santis. “Massimo has shown after one season that he is capable of playing in our league. We know that his concentration will be on the U20 World Cup this summer but this tournament will give him a lot of experience for the future.”
NEW DEALS FOR ASSISTANTS COACHES
The organization also announced that assistant coaches Peter Pinizzotto and Youssef Dahha will be back for the 2007 season.
Pinizzotto joined the Impact in 2004, helping the team win the USL First Division championship that year. Previously, he had coached the Toronto Lynx for seven seasons.
Dahha also joined the club that season, as goalkeeper coach. He helped the club post the best defense in the league, with only 15 goals in 28 games, a team record first set in 2004, and tied in 2005 and 2006.
The Impact will kick off the 2007 First Division United Soccer Leagues season on Sunday, April 21 in Atlanta against the Silverbacks. The Impact will play its 14th home opener of its history at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex on Sunday, May 20, against the Seattle Sounders.
The Impact 2007 season-ticket packages are now on sale. For further information, contact the Impact ticketing office at 514-328-3668 or ticketing@impactmontreal.com.
