I'm positive, but make no mistake, we need to get back to the MLS, the only thing standing in our way is a proper stadium. Management has pondered the idea of a new stadium, but nothing has been decided of yet. I'm hoping the MLS thrives, so one day, we can make a triumphant return to top of the North American soccer scene.
The thing that bugs me, is that their isn't a team in New York. All those latinos and Italians, and no team????? Whose running this league anyways...thus, I'm getting off topic.
Go Whitecaps Go!

by the way nice win for Toronto
17.Apr.2004
Date: Saturday, April 17, 2004
Venue: Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium, Bayamon, Puerto Rico
Attendance: approx. 6,000
Kick off Time: 8:00 PM
Final Score: Toronto 1 Puerto Rico 0 (OT)
Match Summary: The Toronto Lynx opened the 2004 A-League season on a winning note today, much to the dismay of a crowd of over 6,000 on hand for the Puerto Rico Islanders inaugural home opener. Striker, Ali Gerba, picked up where he left off last season, banging home the game-winner off a scramble in front of the Islanders net, ten minutes into overtime. Gerba was last season's offensive star, counting 5 game-winning goals among his team leading 7 tallies. "The match could have gone either way," said new Lynx head coach Duncan Wilde. "It was hard to see exactly what happened but Ali and their defender both had the ball at the same time and it looked like Ali was just able to get it past. But it was a very close match". The Lynx played a textbook road match, taking the crowd out of the game with tough tackling, solid defending, and a counter-attacking style. Although the Islanders carried much of the play, a Lynx break yielding the best scoring chance of the match when midfielder, Edgar Bartolomeu's drive struck the crossbar. Wilde, who earned his first A-League victory, has done a remarkable job molding a talented roster that returned only 7 players from last season. Lynx newcomers played key roles in the match with new goalkeeper, Bryheem Hancock recording the shutout. "This was a great win for us because now we have two weeks off to prepare for the rest of the season," continued Wilde. "Its great to start the season with a road win and we will build on this for the next match in Rochester." The Lynx return from Puerto Rico on Monday and are back in action on Saturday, May 1st in Rochester. Home town fans will have to wait until Sunday, May 16th for the Lynx home opener when they take on the Rochester Raging Rhinos at Centennial Park Stadium at 4pm.
Final Score: Toronto 1 Puerto Rico 0 (OT)
The Lynx next match is Saturday, May 1st at 7:35 PM @ the Rochester Raging Rhinos
The Lynx home opener is Sunday, May 16th at 4:00 PM versus the Rochester Raging Rhinos

2nd week in the A-League
Bailey Wants to Add to the Attack 22/04/04
The 24-year-old forward, originally from Trinidad & Tobago, will provide one more option for head coach Nick DeSantis, who already has forwards Eduardo Sebrango, Nikola Budalic, Fred Commodore and Darko Kolic on his roster.
"We were looking for another forward with good speed and a physical presence, and he’s got it,"said DeSantis about Bailey. "Joel is going to need some time to get accustomed to the way we play, but he’s shown us a lot of qualities."
Bailey, who was the NCAA’s top scorer with 36 goals over the 2000 season, will be making his A-League debut, but he has shown promise in his first pro season, this winter, in the MISL.
"He brings the kind of punch to a team that you don’t see everyday," said Impact defender Nevio Pizzolitto, who had Bailey as a teammate over the last indoor soccer season in Cleveland. "You can tell he’s going to be a good player. He’s versatile with the ball, he likes to take on players one on one, and he has speed. Several teams were interested in him, so that’s why I told Nick about him so he could look into it."
Bailey finished his college career in the United States as the all-time leading scorer in Wheeling Jesuit University history. In four seasons at the West Virginia-based institution, he scored 92 goals and collected 31 assists. His 36 goals and 86 points picked up in 2000 are both team records for a season.
"I’ll try to bring another dimension to the team offensively, so that we become tougher to defend against," said Bailey. "My best assets are probably my speed running with the ball, taking players on and just trying overall to be dangerous."
The Impact offence had one last chance to fine tune its play before Sunday’s season opener against the Islanders, as Wednesday morning, it led the Montreal squad to a 5-1 pre-season win against the McGill Redmen. Mauro Biello scored three goals.

Thunder Sign Freddy 22/04/04
The 26-year old left-footer comes to the Thunder after spending the past six seasons with the El Paso Patriots, formerly of the A-league. While at El Paso, Juarez accumulated nearly 12,000 minutes in 133 games played.
“Freddy is a quick and very skillful defensive midfielder,” said Buzz Lagos, head coach of the Thunder. “With his presence and experience, he will be a large contributor to one of the most dangerous midfields in the A-league.”
The 2000 and 2003 Patriot Defensive Player of the Year is a community leader in his hometown of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Juarez coaches a premier U-17 team called the New Mexico Strikers 4, the same team he grew up representing on the field. His team is the reining New Mexico State Cup Champions and Juarez will return in the off-season to prepare them for next year. Juarez has been coaching the same group of players since they began playing the sport when they were around the age of four.

Thunder Shuts Out Calgary In Opener
Matteo, Warren Lead Way
MINNEAPOLIS (Sunday, April 25, 2004) - Midfielder Jeff Matteo tallied
a world-class goal and assist, and goalkeeper Joe Warren stopped a
penalty kick, leading the Minnesota Thunder to a 2-0 home opener win
over the Calgary Mustangs at the Metrodome.
"It was a good win for the team," said Matteo. "I was glad I could
contribute to the team. We played a great game tonight."
Forward Johnny Menyongar scored the first goal of the night on a
picture-perfect through pass from Matteo in the 24th minute. Matteo,
who played last season with the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer,
dribbled through four defenders before dishing off the winning
assist.
The turning point of the game came in the 33rd minute when Warren
stopped Calgary's Damir Jesic on a penalty kick. The Thunder
dominated play throughout the rest of the game, out-shooting Calgary
11-6 on the night.
Six minutes into the second half Matteo put the icing on the cake
when he converted a 25-yard, bending free-kick into the upper right
corner, cleanly beating Calgary goalkeeper Lutz Pfannenstiel.
The Thunder had two other good opportunities in the game. Defender
Kevin Friedland's first-half header hit the side netting and
midfeilder Jay Alberts nearly added one in the final minutes.
"We played very well the first part of the game," said Thunder head
coach Buzz Lagos. " We were playing in a new environment against a
solid team, but Joe Warren came up with a big save on the penalty
shot and Matteo came up with the supporting goal to secure our
win. The players had a great presence around the ball, especially
(Chris) Vorenkamp, (Freddy) Juarez and (Marshall) Morehead."
Minnesota's next game two games are on the road against Vancouver
(May 7) and Calgary (May 9). The Thunder's next home match is
against the Edmonton Aviators in its new St. Paul home, James Griffin
Stadium.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.mnthunder.com, or by calling
the Thunder office at 651-917-8326.
