Default Fulham v Stoke (FAC)

Quote:
Stoke City will be looking to give Fulham a run for their money at Craven Cottage.

The Potters have emerged as a force in the Championship and will be no pushovers in their FA Cup fourth round clash in West London.

However, Fulham are in fine form and are unbeaten in their last nine outings in all competitions, although just two of those games have resulted in wins.

Fulham boss Chris Coleman is likely to give Welsh midfielder Simon Davies an FA Cup debut following his move from Everton this week.

Jan Lastuvka should continue to deputise between the sticks as first-choice keeper Antti Niemi is still on the sidelines recovering from a neck injury.

Claus Jensen and Papa Bouba Diop are still out of action, while midfielders Jimmy Bullard and Mark Pembridge are long-term casualties.

Stoke City have new faces of their own with on-loan Lee Martin available for manager Tony Pulis along with Salif Diao following his switch from Liverpool.

Senegalese midfielder Diao has already played in the FA Cup for Stoke this term after featuring in their 2-0 win over Millwall earlier this month.

Belgian defender Carl Hoefkens is unlikely to play as he is in talks with Club Brugge after Stoke accepted a bid for his services.

Mamady Sidibe and Ricardo Fuller are set to continue up front after the pair combined to net the only goal in Stoke's midweek win over Burnley.

Fulham's strikers guided The Cottagers into the fifth round with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Stoke City.

Goals from Vincenzo Montella, Brian McBride and Tomasz Radzinski were enough to put Chris Coleman's side through into the next round.

Coleman made one change from his side's 1-1 draw with Tottenham, as Montella stepped up in place of Ian Pearce. The Italian striker netted twice in The Cottager's 4-3 replay victory over Leicester City and has impressed since his loan move from Roma. Simon Davies found himself on the bench following his move from Everton.

Meanwhile, Stoke boss Tony Pulis also made one change from The Potters' 1-0 victory at Burnley, as newly-loaned Manchester United youngster Lee Martin replaced Andy Wilkinson and was making his first start for the club.

Fulham had the first opportunity of the match, as Franck Queudrue broke following pressure from Stoke, who played the ball out to Leroy Rosenior on the left-hand side. Montella was awaiting the through-ball, but Roseniors pass fell to the feet of the defence.

Fulham increased the pressure on The Potter's as McBride's close-range effort was cut out by captain Michael Duberry and bundled wide.

However, Montella (11) handed Fulham the lead as poor Stoke defending allowed Radzinski to play the ball across the goal following a Wayne Routledge cross. The Italian striker netted for the fourth time for his side, tapping in from a yard out.

Cottagers' captain Michael Brown then had an opportunity to double the lead two minutes later as he found himself in space 25-yards out, but he fired his effort low and wide of the left-hand post.

Martin was looking lively for The Championship side, showing evidence on the left-hand side of his pace and ability, but the experience of the Fulham defence allowed them to contain him.

Stoke's first chance came when Pulis' side were awarded a free-kick on the right-hand side following a foul by Brown, but Ricardo Fuller headed Dominic Matteo's free-kick wide.

Leroy Rosenior picked up a yellow card for unsporting behaviour as Martin charged down the left wing. The resultant free-kick on the edge of the area was swung goalwards by Liam Lawrence, and Jan Lastuvka was forced to thump the ball out to remove any danger.

Stoke were failing to convert their possession into chances, as they wasted their set-pieces. Seconds after Lawrence hit his free-kick wide, The Potter's paid the price and found themselves 2-0 down.

Brian McBride (39) doubled his side's lead with a brilliant finish thanks to a perfectly timed through ball from Montella. The American international latched onto the ball inside the area and fired his volley home, despite pressure from the Stoke defence.

Just as Stoke were beginning to regain their composure, referee Martin Atkinson blew his whistle for half-time.

Stoke were clearly targeting an early impact on the second-half, as Andrew Griffin fired his long range effort wide of the left-hand post. Immediately after, Griffin was replaced by Andy Wilkinson for the first substitute of the game.

Minutes later, Lawrence was released on the right hand side. His ball into the area was met by Martin, but his close range effort was thumped straight at Lastuvka.

Stoke were looking to get back in the game as Matteo was replaced by Salif Diao, but the substition failed to make an impact on the game, as Fulham scored their third goal of the game within a minute of the change.

Excellent work by Volz on the edge of the area provided Tomasz Radzinski (54) with space in the box. On his second touch, Fulham hit home for the third time as the Canadian sliced his effort through the Stoke defence and past Steve Simonsen in goal for 3-0.

Rosenior then broke on the right hand side and his cross was met by three waiting attackers, but Volz fired his effort at the Stoke defence, as the ball went for a corner, from which no chance was created.

Coleman made his first change of the tie on the hour mark, as Montella was replaced by American international Clint Dempsey.

Both sides then made further changes minutes later, as Adam Rooney replaced Fuller for Stoke, whilst Simon Davies was brought on for his Fulham debut in place of Rosenior.

Dempsey came close to increasing Fulham's advantage, but his effort from outside the area crawled past the left-hand post.

Radzinski almost netted for the second time as poor communication between Simonsen and the Stoke defence presented him with a chance, but he was not expecting such an opportunity and his panicked effort was hooked wide of the post.

Fulham's final change saw McBride replaced by Claus Jensen with 15 minutes remaining.

Coleman's side had an opportunity to make it 4-0 with 10 minutes remaining, as Queudrue's free-kick on the edge of the area skimmed the crossbar.

It would have taken Stoke one of the most remarkable turn-arounds in FA Cup history if they were to get back into the tie, but as it had been throughout the whole of the game, they failed to turn their possession into chances.

The final 10 minutes were played out merely as a formality with the result clear from early in the second half. Referee Atkinson blew the final whistle, putting Fulham into the draw for the fifth round.
