Charlton v Wycombe [Carling Cup]
Quote:
A 3-0 defeat at home to Liverpool on Saturday left Charlton firmly entrenched in the relegation mire.
But Tuesday's cup clash gives Les Reed the ideal opportunity to inject some much-needed spark back into his team's season.
The Addicks have already negotiated one potential cup shock this season after edging past Chesterfield on penalties in the last round.
Wycombe will not be easy pickings either, particularly as Charlton are without two key players for the game at The Valley.
Captain Luke Young could be out for the next six weeks with a knee injury, while Andy Reid is due to be absent with a hamstring problem.
Reid has been forced off in the last two games with the complaint and is not expected to line up against Wycombe.
Lloyd Sam is tipped to be available after a hip injury, while Jerome Thomas could also return to the squad after injury.
Souleymane Diawara could claim a starting spot, while Bryan Hughes is also hoping to be included from the kick-off.
Wycombe have already claimed the scalp of one Premiership club this season after seeing off Fulham at Craven Cottage in the second round.
Paul Lambert takes his side to The Valley with nothing to lose and Wycombe have experience of reaching the semi-finals of a major cup competition after their appearance in the last four of the FA Cup in 2001.
The League Two side are hoping to have Matt Bloomfield and Sam Stockley available after the duo suffered injuries against MK Dons at the weekend.
Bloomfield was momentarily knocked unconscious in the match, while Stockley hurt his hamstring, but both could feature.
Tommy Doherty will be missing, though, as he has returned to Queens Park Rangers after being sent off against MK Dons.
Sergio Torres is also out, so Lambert could have a few selection problems in midfield.

Yeh this could be a tough one for the Addicts, particularly as Wycombe already knocked out Fulham (at Craven Cottage!!) in an earlier round. they didn't look a bad side, totally outclassed Fulham frankly.

Apparently they have made 7 changes for this game.
Luke Young is out for 6 weeks (and hes there captain i think,) Carson is back (which is good for them) but they are probably missing Kishishev, Andy Reid and Lloyd Sam.
I know that doesnt add up to 7 but they just said on the radio.
EDIT: 1-0 to wycombe at halftime

tbh i think they probably lost on purpose, premiership survival is more important than carling cup which otherwise is just a distraction with extra games...
also wycombe are the giant killers this year, fulham were shocking at the cottage that night, i dont think rurnstrom has played since...

the cup was a chance for them to go for it, nothing to lose, it could have been a good win for their confidence, i think it was a missed opportunity. i do feel sorry for charlton. i wonder how curbishley feels, he leaves and suddenyl they have fallen to the bottom.
apparently their match against liverpool is one of the worst peformances in the history of the premier leauge
