Well I would be going from history and other people in most instances of course but I would say:
- Any side that wins three or more European Cups in a row must be pretty special, so that brings in Ajax, Real Madrid & Bayern Munich for starters. No argument there.
- Liverpool 77 & 78 were a stunning team, full of class players and capable of dominating. If they had not have met Nottingham Forest in 1979 I suspect they might have added a third in a row.
- But Forest had a great management duo and a superb team, a great keeper in Shilton and a coherent system of playing. They deserve a lot of credit.
- Marseille 93 were pretty special, but their achievements unfortunately will always be clouded by what happened afterwards (or during). Some incredible players though- Papin, Waddle, Boli, Desailly. Great side.
- Milan late 80s has to be up there too, although the 94 final for me was the best display I saw. To beat Barcelona 4-0, the same Barcelona that had simply destroyed Manchester Utd by the same scoreline, takes some doing.
- The goal Red Star Belgrade scored against Bayern Munich alone should secure their place in history. They had some amazing attackers- Prosinečki, Jugović, Savićević & Pančev, not to mention Mihajlović, and a unique way of playing. Shame the final they won was such a bum deal.
- Obviously we will never know just how good they were, but La Grande Torino by all accounts were supposed to be something pretty special. I believe at one stage they had something like nine of the Italian starting eleven playing for them? Same goes for United '58 of course in that we will never know just how good they could have been, the likes of Tommy Taylor & Duncan Edwards were real special talents and sadly cut short by tragedy.
- I would have to nominate Celtic '67 on there too, they countered the fabled Catenaccio of Helenio Herrera & Inter Milan with attacking play, and won, and all of their side were home-grown. It is rare enough that a side like Barcelona can win the Champions League with five or six home grown players, but to do it with all eleven? Great stuff.
- That Ajax side in 95 had some good players didn't it- Litmanen, Overmars, Kluivert, De Boer, Van der Sar. But I think the Juventus side which beat them a year later was even better, the side of Vialli, Ravanelli, Deschamps, Del Piero et al. That was a great side.
---------------------------------------------
Nice historical thread though, hopefully it doesn't descend into a slanging match like this kind of thing usually does.

they did not win the league that season, benfica did.
unfortunatelt the truth is that Benfica 1960s is the best portguese team 2 EC and 3 times runners up. they are easily one of the best 10 ever surely because they won the cup two times consecutively and appeared in 3 more finals and lossed vs inter in san siro and man unitd in wembly two away venues in a final, they also lost to milan in 63 when being considered faviorites and after injury to coluna milan came back and won 2-1 after bring 1-0 down. they were consistent throughtout the whole decade of the 60s and their success was not just a 1 off season, or even 2 seasons because they were consistent for the whole decade like i said things didnt go their way in finals but they beat teams like real madrid, omar sivori juventus in later years and eusebio was golden ball winner in 1965
