"It's ripped out of the headlines," Sharrett says. "It's something that appeals to a cynicism of the population."

More than that, Sharrett thinks the untimely death of Heath Ledger, so prominent in The Dark Knight as iconic villain The Joker, is the film's X factor—the something different that, as he sees it, distinguishes the superhero-action movie from all the other recent superhero-action movies.

I said exactly the same thing to my mate, who has read the historic comics about Batman and his origin, and he told me that Batman was originally set in New York. So the Producers reverted back to the original and not to the old Gotham that we saw in previous movies.

I also agree that Bale's voice was OTT.

I agree about Ledger's nomination for an Oscar but surely not for 'leading male' as he's not in the film long enough (my only problem with the film).

Gary Oldman was incredible, AS USUAL.

I think that Ledger should be nominated as Best Supporting Actor.

but the movie doesn't have to stick to the comics exactly so it could still be the commissioner's son.

There have been three Robins in the Batman comics.

One of them worked in a Circus with his family but his family tragically dies during a show. Bruce was present and saw the kid who lost his family. Adopts him.

Another Robin, his family was killed by the Joker.

But i don't have such grip on how clearly things are. I'll dig and try to find out.

No way it can be the commissioner's son. That would be totally messing up the story. Batgirl is the comissioner's daughter (Barbara Gordon), but i didn't see any teenage girl of Gordon so i doubt they'll be a Batgirl.

I might be the first to say this on TalkSoccer, but I'm definately not the first one to say it in general, as I've already spoke to some and they share the same opinion: TDK is totally overrated.

Well, it was quite messy with too quick tempo, was hard to follow at some points. Besides it was more Joker-movie than Batman. Didn't like it.
