Tottenham reject Darren Anderton has admitted he was surprised to be shown the door by the club where he has spent the past 12 years of his career.

The former England international was recently told he would not be offered a new deal to remain at White Hart Lane and is now on the lookout for a new home.

The midfielder - who has made over 350 appearances for Spurs - was even more perplexed by the decision considering David Pleat had selected him every time he was available.

Anderton was also disappointed not to get the chance to thank the fans for their support during his time in North London, but is ready to move on in his career.

"I find is strange David Pleat should be so keen to pick me at every opportunity this season, yet the board have decided to get rid of me, I assume on his recommendation," he commented.

"It would have been nice to have gone on the pitch and waved goodbye. I've been here so long.

"Mistakes have been made at the club and I think getting rid of me is another one."

He added: "But you haven't seen the last of me."

The former Portsmouth player now hopes the Tottenham board find a new manager to take over the coaching duties from David Pleat.

Anderton feels the caretaker-boss struggled to complete his coaching duties along with his position as director of football.

"This season has been so frustrating for both the players and the fans," explained the 32-year-old.

"Pleat has been trying to combine his role of caretaker-manager with that of director of football and many players were left wondering where they stood.

"Now I suggest the board find a good manager, a really top person, someone who is used to winning things.

"Money must be made available for the new man to spend on some big-name players."

Anderton has been a leech for years, paid £30k a week to sit in the stands because he's always injured.

Sicknote. He has had so many injuries that's why I reckon Spurs just got sick and tired of him. People say to me Bryan Robson use to get injured a lot but Robbo never bottled out of a tackle and Robbo would run through brick walls for his teamates unlike Sicknote.

Sorry Spurs fans but Anderton took yous for a ride.
