Spurs complete signing of Hutton
Quote:
Tottenham have completed the protracted transfer of defender Alan Hutton from SPL leaders Rangers.
The 23-year-old Scotland right-back, who has six caps, has joined for a fee believed to be in the region of £9m.
"We are delighted to announce we have reached agreement with Glasgow Rangers for the transfer of Alan Hutton," said a statement on Tottenham's website.
Spurs boss Juande Ramos has also signed centre-back Jonathan Woodgate in the transfer window to bolster his defence.
The White Hart Lane club and Rangers had agreed a fee for Hutton at the start of the transfer window but the player turned down the chance of a switch to Spurs.
Hutton signed a new five-year deal with the Ibrox side last July and any potential move to the north London club looked over after the player rejected a second bid.

But Spurs maintained their interest in him and, after upping the terms on offer, have managed to lure him away from Ibrox.
Hutton was also linked with a move to Manchester United, but could now make his debut against the Premier League champions when Spurs host the Old Trafford side on Saturday.
"The last 12 months have been fantastic for me personally and I have received great support from the Rangers fans," Hutton told the Rangers website.
"That meant a lot and helped give me the confidence to take the next step in my career.
"I wish Rangers every success for the season and in the future and, although I'm sad to leave, there is no doubt my transfer is good not just for me but for the Rangers."
Rangers boss Walter Smith had earlier said he was sorry to see Hutton leave the club, adding: "The clubs agreed a fee a couple of weeks ago and it was up to Alan to decide what he wanted to do.
"He took his time as he has told me that he was enjoying his football here and he wasn't in too much of a rush to go anywhere.
"But as the weeks have gone on he has decided it was the right time for him and we wish him well in that respect. "Throughout the club there is disappointment that he's leaving, but clearly it was an offer we couldn't turn down."

Even tho he rejected a Spurs bid before this one, he has accepted this one (duh ) and has signed for Tottenham. Now with a stronger defence Tottenham will definitely be looking to climb up the title and get into one of the UEFA places. Ramos is definitely making the right signings to bolster their defence.

Chimbonda is a top RB, great aerially, good cross and very strong defensively.
Hutton apparently is very good going forward but less so defensively.
It's a strange one, Chimbonda is certainly up to the job for a few more years and is a very good player.
£9M on a player who isn't necessarily an upgrade is a lot when it could be spent on other positions (eg a left footed left winger or a true DM)

Dang. 9 million?? Chimbonda does a great job. Yeah he loses his cool and head sometimes but he is a solid player. Can Hutton play in the center if needed?

apparently Ramos is going to move Chimbonda to CB, so perhaps that is why they got Hutton.

Well apparently Chimbonda laughed at Ramos when he last asked him to play CB so I don't think that would be true.
And the signing of Woodgate suggests that's not true as well.
Woodgate, King, Dawson, Kaboul & Chimbonda at CB?

I know chimbonda laughed just thought that could be one of the reasons that they bought Hutton...because if woodgate and/or King aren't fit then Chimbonda can fill in at cb for them
Or chimbonda could be leaving.

Hutton will be great for Spurs.
He is a top player. Proved it in the Champions League and in Internationals.
The Spurs fans will love him.

Nah he would be charging forward.

On his day Hutton can boss a game on the right.
Needs to work on his defensive game but he's still very young. So 9M may not seem be too bad in a few years.
