Default EPL: Everton vs Spurs (30.1.2008)

Quote:
Everton must make do without suspended duo Tim Cahill and Tony Hibbert for the Barclays Premier League visit of Tottenham.

Joseph Yobo, Ayegbeni Yakubu and Stephen Pienaar are at the African Nations Cup and Thomas Gravesen (knee) is ruled out.

Midfielder Leon Osman will be given a late test on calf and groin injuries as manager David Moyes works with limited resources.

Full-back Leighton Baines is primed for his first involvement for three months following an ankle injury.

Moyes feels that Spurs are one of eight clubs with the financial clout to challenge at the top end of the Premier League - and they already had a stunning pool of talent when Juande Ramos succeeded Martin Jol.

``I think he took over a very good squad of players,'' Moyes said. ``I don't think anyone in football would have thought for a minute that Tottenham weren't going to do a lot better than they were doing at that moment in time.

``There have not been an awful lot of changes to the team, maybe the style and the way he has changed things behind the scenes is different - stuff I wouldn't know about - and has had an effect.

``But what I do know about him is he has had good success at Sevilla.''

Tottenham look set to hand new signing Jonathan Woodgate his debut.

Centre-back Michael Dawson is suspended following his red card in the FA Cup defeat at Manchester United on Sunday, but Pascal Chimbonda is available again following his one-game suspension.

Striker Darren Bent (knee), Gareth Bale (foot), Benoit-Assou Ekotto (knee) and Anthony Gardner (ankle) remain sidelined, while midfielder Didier Zokora is on international duty with Ivory Coast at the African Nations Cup.

This is a massive game for Spurs.

European qualification via the league is pretty unlikely considering how good Everton, City and Villa have been this season, but if they want to have a chance these are the most important games to win.

scoreless draw. Berbs with a few late chances, but Everton had more chances than we did. Nice to see the new guys getting to play right away.
