Default Tiago Deal Falls Through

Tottenham Hotspur have almost concluded talks with Juventus misfit Tiago over a move to White Hart Lane...

Earlier this week, Juventus had accepted Spurs' bid for Tiago Mendes, and the London club were in talks with the player over personal terms.

There seemed to be massive differences between the club and the player as of last evening, but those seem to have been ironed out now, following some fruitful negotiations after chairman Daniel Levy travelled to Turin.

Levy, joined by sporting director Damien Comolli, was attempting to lure the Portuguese midfielder back to the Premier League by promising to bring to an end his nightmare Serie A spell.

However, the Lilywhites were said to be unwilling to meet Tiago's reported wage demands of over £50,000 a week (67,000 euros), and a deadlock loomed.

But Italian sources now claim that the player has backed down, and accepted an offer close to £35,000 a week (47,000 euros).

As such, once the final details are thrashed out, the player could be set for a transfer as early as this weekend.

The 26-year-old, formerly of Chelsea, signed on with the Old Lady this summer from Lyon in a 13 million euro fee.

Having gained little return on their investment due to poor form and injury, Juve are keen to cut their losses on Tiago and will doubtless hope that negotiations between the player and Spurs bear fruit, as seems likely.

As for a transfer fee, Juve will make around £9.7million (13 million euros), approximately what they will dish out for Momo Sissoko.

Definitely worth it. Why don't they just sign Pedro Mendes back?

because every time I think of him I think of that goal that was not given even though the keeper was half way up the stands through the net.

We've had some bad luck with Portuguese players in the past so I have mixed emotions but he has the talent to help out in midfield. We could always offload him to Porto later and he can become a star like Postiga.

Tiago Deal Falls Through

Sky Sports News claims that Tottenham Hotspur's bid to sign Tiago has fallen through at the last minute...

Juventus and Tottenham seemed to have agreed a transfer fee for the transfer of the Portuguese, and the player himself was close to striking an accord, but it has all gone haywire.

Sky Sports News have announced that Tiago will not be making the move to White Hart Lane after the deal fell through at the final minute.

It is unclear what the exact problem was, but the Portuguese international may still be able to leave Turin before the end of the transfer window.

Bolton Wanderers and big-spending Manchester City are monitoring the situation, with the Citizens said to be considering an approach for the ex-Lyon man.

Tiago, 27, only arrived in Turin in June, but has failed to establish himself as a regular under Claudio Ranieri. Previously, he served Braga, Benfica, Chelsea and Lyon.

Some media reports claim that Spurs could yet make an improved offer, but with the transfer deadline fast approaching, will have to do so soon. As of now, the player is anyone's for the taking.

All we know for certain is that Juventus are desperate to offload him to generate some funds.
