Exclamation Ramos May Let Berbatov Go!

Quote:
Ramos unruffled by Berbatov talk

Tottenham boss Juande Ramos will not attempt to block a transfer for Dimitar Berbatov if the striker wants to leave the club in January.

Berbatov, 26, is reported to be unsettled and his agent met the club's sporting director Damien Comolli in London this week.

"I believe you can't force players to stay in the team if they don't want to," said the Spaniard.

Despite the reports, Berbatov is in the squad for the Uefa Cup clash against Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel.

"I think Berbatov is happy, but that is a question you need to ask him," Ramos added.

"He is a Spurs player and he needs to help and support the team."

Earlier in the week, Comolli insisted the Bulgaria international wanted to stay at White Hart Lane.

"I met with Dimitar's agent and he assured me Dimitar is not looking for a move in January," said Comolli.

"He is on a long-term contract with us and Juande Ramos sees him as an important part of our plans."

At the end of this season Berbatov will be halfway through a four-year contract after joining Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2006 in a £10.9m deal.

I've been disappointed with his attitude this season since I admired him last season and his ability is unquestionable. But he's getting way too big for his boots and it's affecting his performances imo. He's got the Henry syndrome, where he's better than his team and his club owes him more than just wages because he chose to stay at the club and they're on a downer when he could have left to go to a leading side....

He needs to stop playing with his hair and start playing with the ball to show he wasn't just a one season wonder flash in the pan and that he is worth the prices he was being touted for in the summer.

The attitude was poor and all yes, but it's important to look at this kind of situation from different angles; when you're a £12m signing who is after carrying the side to a 5th place finish, are you gonna be happy if - on top of Defoe and Keane being about - the club bringing in a striker, considered lower than your ability, costing £17m? When Keane-Berbs worked okay, no worries, he was happy to stay, said so himself. But to someone, the best strike partnership in the premiership wasn't enough.

The rotation of the forwards was an issue before Bent, or even Berbatov came in. We all saw the frustration on Defoe's face when Keane-Mido was prefered, and then again when Keane-Berbs were unassailable. This season, Keane has even looked unhappy at points. In fact, the only striker at Spurs who hasn't thrown his arms up in the air or scowled at some point this season, is probably Bent, the new guy.

Jol was saying Berbatov "wouldn't be sold for £100m" one week, and then the next, Darren Bent comes in for £17m. How would that help your performances?

Besides, last season, by Christmas Berbatov had 4 goals and not a lot of attention caught. By the end of the season he's performing at a world class level, so don't knock him yet.

Dimitar Berbatov insists he is planning to stay at Tottenham Hotspur and is unhappy his family has been brought into the debate about his future.

Reports have claimed that the Bulgarian striker is looking to quit White Hart Lane in January after a lacklustre start to the season.

New Spurs boss Juande Ramos admits he would not stop any unsettled players from leaving, but is keen to keep Berbatov in North London.

The former Bayer Leverkusen hit-man has now responded to the recent speculation and has stressed his wish to focus on playing football, rather than discussing his future.

Lies

"I don't like to speak too much and don't like to be in the spotlight or the papers," Berbatov told the club's official website. "I just want to play football.

"There has been a lot of stuff written about me leaving. I haven't said anything until now, but they are now involving my family and I cannot allow that. When somebody is writing lies about my family I must get involved.

"I am my own man, when I want to speak I will and I will tell you the truth no matter how hard it is. That is why I am talking now.

"I want to let everyone know that I am a Tottenham Hotspur player, I love the club and everyone at the club. I don't always smile so much, but that does not make me a bad person.

"I don't smile because we are near the bottom of the table and have not been playing well - I have not been playing well either.

"The worst thing is when someone starts writing lies and when people see that they start to believe it. That really is the worst thing.

Disappointed

"I just want to say that I am here, I am happy here and I will help the club in any way I can.

"The fans love the club and they have been behind me ever since my first game. I appreciate them the most and I want to tell them that I am not going anywhere.

"I have a contract and I will give my best, for now it is not going so well for me because all the writing in the papers has been messing with my head and I lost my concentration.

"I don't want to see my name in the papers anymore - I just want to play football and enjoy myself. When I see things in the paper with somebody telling lies about my father, how can I be calm? I am disappointed and I don't understand how somebody can write something like that - it is a lie.

"Bringing my family into it is the biggest sin."

That's with reference to an artical quoting Berbatov's brother

If Berbatov goes, it'll be better to Tottenham and better to Berbatov . . .

In the money Tottenham will have from selling Berbatov, they can buy 2 top-class players. Ramos needs a creative midfielder to lead Tottenham, and he will be able to bring Kanoute' who he knows very well. Kanoute imo is lot better than Berbatov . . .

Kanoute>Berbatov? Well, I'll move on before a rant comes on . . .

But the general concept of Spurs being able to use the money elsewhere is a fair point, although Spurs are known to be able to put up cash anyway. It's not like they'd desperately need a replacement mind - there's around £35m worth of strikers not including Berbatov, although they could do with a target player. Wouldn't say they'd go for Kanoute - he's 30 and would surely carry a pretty big price tag, for a player who would only be around at that level a couple of years more.

I obviously like Dimitar a lot and it is sad to hear this talk, but I am 100% behind Ramos now and he must do what he needs to do. Truth is that Berbs has not been great this season but that's not necessarily his fault either.
