Tottenham part company with Jol
Tottenham manager Martin Jol has parted company with the north London club.
Jol tendered his resignation before taking charge for the game against Getafe - a 2-1 defeat in the Uefa Cup.
Spurs, who are third from bottom in the Premier League, have won just one league game after spending heavily during the summer transfer window.
Sevilla coach Juane Ramos has reportedly agreed to become Spurs' new manager at the start of next season.
Spurs reportedly met Ramos in August with a "dizzying" offer to replace the 51-year-old Jol at White Hart Lane.
The Times newspaper also reported Gus Poyet, the former Tottenham and Chelsea midfield player, has been approached to become the assistant manager.
During the defeat to Getafe in a a Group G game Spurs fans gave vocal support to the Dutchman singing "Stand up for Martin Jol" during the match.
Jol took charge of Spurs in November 2004, taking over from Frenchman Jacques Santini and under the Dutchman the club twice qualified for the Uefa Cup.
Having recruited the likes of Darren Bent, who cost £16.5m, Gareth Bale and French defender Younes Kaboul during the summer, Tottenham had high hopes of challenging for a Champions League place.
But Spurs have suffered a disastrous start, recording just one victory - the 4-0 win over Derby in August - and since the reported meeting with Ramos, Jol has faced constant questioning over his future.

I think it's a shame but he pretty much had to go, and I'm a Jol fan, but he'd lost control of the dressing room.
The thing is though, if Ramos is coming in next season, who's gonna manage them for the remaining 30/40 games of the season!?

So Ramos will be in for next season, who is gonna be in charge for the remainder of this? Remember when they stuck David Pleat in charge after Hoddle went, it was a nightmare.
I think Spurs have cocked this one right up.

mate they could put Ossie Ardiles back in and he couldn't do much worse than they're doing now. It's really hard to believe that this is the same team (actually an even stronger squad) that has finished in 5th place for the last 2 seasons. Just need to make sure we stay up (I'm not even joking) and then rebuild from next season. I hope it is Ramos coming in because we need to improve a lot.

So they turn the reins over to a caretaker? How would that be worse than the mess Jol has made of things? Even if they got someone like Souness to handle the squad until Ramos is availible, or made someone like Robbie Keane the player/manager, that couldn't be worse than Jol's putting Spurs on a collision course with relegation.

I'll miss his accent
If they get Ramos, they are lucky. He's a quality manager.

A very illustrious manager in Europe that will help spurs to challenge for the next season.
However, the bad results still continue after a EFA cup against Getafe a 2-1 defeat. In EPL, spurs stills in the relegation zone, the problem they should tackle is quickly to run out of the relegation.

Exactly. The last thing we need is to start off with a new manager after having gone down.
I still can't believe it. I actually stood up for Jol at first and believed that it was just a run of bad luck, but holy crap - that's a LOT of bad luck there.

to be fair to Jol he did have a lot of bad luck, especially right at the start of the season, King injured, Dawson injured, Rocha injured, Bale injured, Lee injured, Lennon injured, Malbranque I think was injured at the start too...
Then there was the form of certain players which didn't help, Robinson, Berbatov (anonymous in the first few games of the season)...
And the fixture list didn't help either, Spurs have already played United, Arsenal & Liverpool in the league and the other games haven't been particularly easy (bar Derby).
Then I think Berbatov is beginning to feel he's bigger than the club because he didn't ask for a transfer to a bigger club which is dangerous. I still think he's a fantastic footballer but he just wasn't paying attention to Jol by the end of his reign!
And finally the board, 3/4 games into the season started questioning Jol, which automatically puts him and the team under more pressure and apparently, it did more damage than it did help.
A lot went against Jol, but u should remember that he gave Spurs their best finishes in the Premiership in 2 consecutive seasons, as well as a good run in the UEFA Cup.

i agree. i also think its fair to say that he didnt have full control over the signings that were made. Jol is known to have been desperate for a defensive midfielder this summer, but the board didnt find him one. I'm not utterly convinced the Darren Bent signing was one that Jol angled for, as we have seen by the apparent lack of faith Jol has shown in him.
Ok Jol has made some pretty poor choices. Zokora for me was a terrible signing, real waste of money- i dont think he is the class DM they need. Jenas was another really overpriced player, Jol paid for his nationality there. There were other strange, nothing signings as well, such as Danny Murphy & Tainio, who were never gonna lift Spurs out of the bottom But then he has brought in Berbatov, Chimbonda, Bale & Kaboul, four quality signings that will be a big part in the new managers plans I'm sure. There are still a lot of good young players at Spurs- I'm thinking of Lennon, Huddlestone, Taarabt, Bale, and if you look at Spurs' record this season, there are very few games that they have been battered, or outclassed in. They lost last minute on the opening day, conceded last minute at Anfield, could easily have won the North London derby, lost to a deflected goal at OT and had penalty shouts/chances, battered Bolton at the Reebok but drew....its fine tuning that the side needs, not a massive overhaul imo. A decent holding midfielder, a left back, and a better keeper will sort that side out im sure.

The Tottenham board have been disgraceful through out, Jol is the man to guide them to their best positions in years (while playing good football aswell).
I hear Jol would go to the DoF and ask for certain positions he needed filled and the DoF would come back with a list (Zokora being one of them). I think the signings weren't all his choice, hence the reason Bent has become 4th choice ST.

the problem is that he has lost control and respect and whether it's his fault or not they just cannot carry on like this. It was downright embarrasing what happened with the "Ramos meeting" and then the whole cover up. They needed to clean up this mess and move forward. I hate to see it end this way because yeah 2 top 5 finishes for a club that is really not that great is a huge achievement but things have gotten out of control and we need to do damage control now.

But was he given enough time to turn it round? - considering his previous success. The answer is obviously no. He really had no chance when the board acted right cunts towards him.

Ramos resigns as Spurs job looms
Quote:
Juande Ramos has officially handed in his resignation as coach of Sevilla, paving the way for the 53-year-old to take over at Tottenham.
Ramos, who has been heavily linked with the vacant managerial position at White Hart Lane following the dismissal of Martin Jol on Thursday night, handed in the relevant paperwork to the Primera Liga club on Friday evening.
Sevilla physical trainer Marcos Alvarez also tendered his resignation at the same time.
A statement on the official Sevilla website read: "Juande Ramos appeared on the third floor of the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan (stadium) to present a document in which he asked for his contract to be rescinded under clause 1006/85 at 22.35pm (local time).
"Ramos was accompanied by his physical trainer Marcos Alvarez, who presented the same document to the general director of the club, Jose Maria Cruz, in the presence of Ramon Rodriguez Monchi, the club's sporting director.
"The now ex-Sevilla coach declined the possibility of giving a press conference at the club's training facilities and has chosen his website as a means of saying goodbye to Sevilla FC."
Shortly before the announcement, Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido had sent an official message to the Primera Liga club's supporters where he appeared resigned to losing Ramos.
"In these moments of concern, in which the events are no doubt going to cause damage to Sevilla FC, (I wanted to) send you a message of calm because with 102 years of history, whichever unilateral decisions are taken, we will know how to make the necessary decisions to be able to move forward," said the statement.
"Sevilla is a great club because it has grown more than anybody else in Spain has done in the last few years.
"Whatever happens on the first team bench, when events come to a head in the coming minutes, as they look like they will, we will be able to hold our head high because the only important thing is the badge, the flag and the fans.
"This is the message which today is more alive than ever."
Leeds assistant Gus Poyet is expected to join Ramos at White Hart Lane as number two.
"In the best interests of the team he will not be in attendance at Elland Road for the fixture against Millwall to allow the players to fully focus on the game without any distractions," read a statement from Leeds.

Fair play to Spurs fans for getting behind Jol.
I liked him. Good manager and a top bloke. Shame.
