Charlton's Bent wants Tottenham move
Quote:
The News of the World says Bent admitted to a pal: "West Ham have offered me incredible money but I'm convinced Berbatov is staying at Spurs and I'd love to play alongside him.
"I believe we could form a great partnership."
Charlton want a staggering £20million for Bent and Spurs have offered £10m - £1m more than West Ham.
|
Charlton want £20M and Spurs have offered £10M...Spurs will no way get him for under £15M.

Charlton furious with opening Spurs bid for Bent
Quote:
Charlton Athletic are furious with Tottenham's opening offer of £8 million for striker Darren Bent.
The Daily Mail says Spurs manager Martin Jol is determined to sign the England international, but the club are a long way short of the club's £15m valuation.
West Ham, Newcastle and Liverpool are also interested in the 23-year-old, but Spurs are in a strong position as Bent indicated that he is only interested in a move to White Hart Lane.
Charlton believe they are using Bent's desire to try to achieve a cut-price deal and the tactic has not gone down well with chiefs at The Valley.
|
Martin Jol must be an idiot if he had belive he could sign him for half.

well Mido is headed out the door and there is all this talk about Defoe leaving so the situation could change pretty quickly especially if we did get Bent, but in truth I don't see it happening either.

Spurs close in as Charlton drop Bent price
Quote:
Tottenham are set to sign Charlton Athletic striker Darren Bent for £16 million.
The Guardian says Bent is expected to complete a £16m move to Tottenham within the next seven days after Charlton agreed to accept a reduced offer for their striker.
Charlton have since softened their stance and are ready to settle for £15m with a potential extra £1m in success-related payments.
"The main reason we think Darren has such a high value is because he has just turned 23," said a Charlton source. "In four years' time do you think for one minute transfer fees will have gone down with all the TV money coming in? He will be 27 and one of the top English centre-forwards. He's going to be worth at least £20m.
"Basically we see it as a free deal for somebody. OK, there is a cashflow implication but they will profit. If you buy Michael Owen at 27 - £9m transfer fee, £120,000-a-week - you've got to write that all off because in four years' time he'll be 31 and nearing the end of his career. It's a good deal and, once it's happened, in a year's time it will look cheap."

Manchester City and Newcastle are expected to make late bids for Charlton striker Darren Bent.I think he prefer Spurs.
Liverpool have lost interest in him and seems out of the race.

Bent drops £30,000-a-week to sign for Spurs
Quote:
Charlton Athletic striker Darren Bent is prepared to take a major cut on wages offered by West Ham to seal a move to Tottenham.
The Daily Mail says Bent last night agreed to join Tottenham for £30,000 a week less than was on offer at West Ham a week ago. Spurs will pay a club record £16million for Bent, with £13m payable now and a further £3m in success-related add-ons.
Bent met his former Charlton manager Alan Curbishley last week to finalise a £17m move, only to have a late change of heart. Charlton have now had to lower their price thanks to Bent's reluctance to join West Ham and the failure to draw Liverpool into a bidding war.
That opened the door for Spurs boss Martin Jol to secure a player who he first tried to buy in the January transfer window only to have an £18m bid rejected.

Whilst Bent would be better than Defoe for Spurs (and might even forge a better partnership with Berbatov than Keane) the club simply isn't big enough to keep four strikers of that calibre happy.
One will leave sooner rather than later if Bent comes.

you're absolutely right. it's crazy to have that many strikers even if there is a regular rotation.
