Default Dawson hopeful for Chelsea match

Quote:
Martin Jol is 'hopeful' that Michael Dawson will recover from a knock on his hip in time for the big Premiership clash against Chelsea at the Lane on Sunday.

The ever-reliable central defender picked up the injury in the early stages of Thursday night's UEFA Cup win against Club Brugge.

"He carried on because he's that type of character," said Martin. "We needed him and he did well. It was a bit sore today but hopefully he'll be fine. We'll have another look at him on Saturday."

Martin reported that Calum Davenport had undergone surgery on a groin problem earlier this week. "He had a little operation on his groin in Germany and having listened to the medical staff, he should be able to play again in two, two-and-a-half weeks time,so that's good news."

Paul Stalteri (knee) and Teemu Tainio (hernia) remain out but there was better news surrounding Steed Malbranque (hernia) and Lee Young-Pyo (ankle).

"Young-Pyo looked better today so he could come back into consideration but he's been out for the last five weeks, so I have to think about that," added Martin. "Steed Malbranque is looking good, looking fit and will probably play for our reserves at Harlow on Monday. After that, we will have a good look at him and he could make the squad for the next game."

Martin is referring to our Spurs XI friendly to mark the opening of Harlow Town's Barrows Farm Ground on Monday, November 6, kick-off 7.30pm.

It's going to be a rough one against Chelsea.

Not only did Dawson play, he scored as well. Good news for Spurs fans.
