Spurs close on Dutch deal

Tottenham have entered the race for Ajax's highly-rated Dutch international Nigel de Jong and look set to pip Spanish outfit Seville and West Ham for the player.

De Jong is out-of-contract in the summer and Ajax are ready to sell him for a fee now rather than risk losing him for nothing in the summer.

West Ham had made an offer earlier this month but Spurs have moved in and reports from Holland claim that the player's representatives are due in London to thrash out personal terms over a move to White Hart Lane.

The 21-year-old can play anywhere down the right and can also operate in midfield and a fee of around £2million should be enough to do the deal

West Ham are reported to have pulled out of the running for the Dutch international and if Spurs do complete a deal for de Jong his versatility could allow Martin Jol to offload unsettled Stephen Kelly - a top target for the Hammers.

He wouldnt be regular at Spurs either....not better than any of your midfielders or strikers and perhaps could play fullback. At best a utility player...but at Juve he would be groomed to become one of their star players....they need youth too.
