Default spurs young squad really shaping up

just looking at your midfield.

at least another 7 years of top class goalkeeping out of robinson

dawson and king could be the next terry and gallas (despite being a bit injury prone) and underneath them you have talent like davenport.

centre of the park is impressive....carrick and jenas have it in them to become top class midfielders...huddlestone is another pretty awesome looking talent.

lennon looks a real prospect for some years to come, defoe is a genuine match winner and mido is still very young.

this really is the nucleus of a future title winning side.

has mido signed permanently yet??

must admit i have been impressed by davids, i will hold my hands up and admit i expected him to go through the motions, but he has really played well in all the games i have seen. even jenas has played decent, and i think he is a pile of sh1te. this lennon looks a great winger in the making, real skill and pace. dawson and king are solid enough, and robinson has been the best keeper in the PL this season, except VDS maybe. other players like stalteri, lee, keane and tainio have also done their jobs without fuss and are good team players.

wonder how long it will be tho before chelsea/man utd come sniffing round the likes of king, carrick, robinson & defoe.......

CHELSEA OR MAN UTD

mourinho would definitely take king or defoe (regardless of his size)and carrick is better than jarosik, geremi, smertin....

robinson is a long term solution for united, as is defoe. carrick would be welcomed with open arms, so would king

i dont think it has the talent to challenge chelsea's monopoly for the title, but it could compete with man united, arsenal and liverpool for the scraps, and once they're in the champions league, then who knows what could happen.....

chelsea will be succesfull enough for those at the top to impose sanctions soon enough and then the gap will be possible to close.

Default Andy Reid should play in the first team

Why don't Jol use Andy Reid in the first team?I think he's a better player Tainio.A classic left winger with good left foot crosses.A bigger threat for the defence than Tainio is.

Mind if a Spurs fan chimes in?

It may sound like pie in the sky thinking, but I don't think it will take that long for us to be up there challenging. Hanuma neglected to mention Tainio in his original post, but he's done a better job than Jenas thus far. We also have Routledge just coming back from injury to add width down the right, so it's going to be a major headache for Jol to find the right blend. However, January I think will see another turnover of players with youngsters like Kelly (unfortunately) and Barnard being shown the door along with Rasiak, Brown and Davis (a pity because before his "career threatening" injury he was a good young player). Incoming will be a striker (either Mido on a permanent basis or a new player), a left sided midfielder and possibly a full back. Either way, they will be players who will improve the squad still further.

Now why did I mention all that? Well it kind of irks me that most of you seem to think that Chelsea and Man U can waltz in whenever they feel like it and nick the backbone of our team. But what you might be forgetting is that, if we are realistically challenging both of these clubs in the next season or two for top honours, then they are more likely to stay. I say that because I consider both Man Utd and Arsenal to be clubs in somewhat of a decline. Man Utd have dire troubles in midfield and defence while Arsenal, having already lost Vieira, are looking at the threat of losing Henry and even possibly their manager in the near future ( see Real Madrid sacking today). Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying they won't still be up there, but I think Spurs have sent out warnings to both of them already this season and last. The future's bright indeed.

your absolutely right...spurs players wont leave if they are challenging for the title, but this next 12 months is imperative for spurs.

in this next 12-18 months spurs will still be preparing for an assault on the league and it is now that the more succesful teams will be sniffing around for their players.

the thing that impresses me is the players in your reserves that you have bought in whilst arnesen was there (el hamdoui etc) that in a couple of years time could be as good as what you have now anyway.

I agree Paddington, ManU and Arsenal ae definatly in periods of decline, albeit slight in Uniteds case...

Uniteds Midfield is either aging (GIGGS, SCHOLES) or not worthy of the shirt (SMITH, FLETCHER), their defence is solid with Ferdinand, Neville and Heinze in it but with cover the likes of O'Shea, Brown and most recently Sivestre letting them down things aren't that great...

The goal is only in safe hands for another season or 2 at tops by VDS... The real decent area of United right now is up front with Rooney and VNR, but take either out through injury and the cover of Saha or the aging Ole-GS doesn't have me too excited. United are fragile...

As far as Arsenal goes, Vieira's gone and the hole is still very evident, they've barely got any bite... Henry might well be off, we'll see... and of the players of the great recent past are left, the aging Bergkamp, the tired looking Pires, the injury prone Campbell etc... The more recent new blood isn't of the same quality IMO, Reyes still doesn't warrant his price, Fabregas needs more time to grow as does Van handbag who not only has temper issues but fades in and out of games... They are not the threat they once were and will take at least 4 years to get back to where they were...
