Default Basically, we were pretty much shat!

The anticipation was rife, 8pm Monday was long in coming and finally it was kick-off, Bolton vs Spurs in a clash for 3rd place... Well, I don't know why I bothered tuning in!

OK, we were strong and fluid at times, I'll not deny that, but basically we were all over the place and seemed afraid of Bolton... The biggest problem of the night was that last ball, every time we were in a position to put that final ball through we fell to bits and played some dreadful and frustrating passes...

The one time we did finally break through to equalise Defoe was wrongfully called off-side by the Kunt of a linesman who basically cost us a point that would have put us in 3rd spot... Oh well, it happens to every team...

Lastly, we knew too well of the recent threat of Kevin Nolan, but we failed to pick him up allowing him to take arguably the goal of the season so far. Beautiful strike and I'll take nothing away from the fella, he looks very hot right now and we should have had him tightly marked...

Spurs couldn't have scored in a brothal last night and I think a little stint on the bench might be in order for Defoe to freshen and sharpen him up again and Robbie must be bursting to start a game a prove himself...

Thoughts?

yeah you weren't great...its dissapointing to see your team crumple under expectation and hostility.

certainly it was even more dissapointing to see my team, after 40 games going unbeaten halfheartedly get themselves up for a second half against an average utd side that were holding on for dear life against a lightweight attack.

but remember bolton are one of the hardest teams in england to beat and as far as i could see, they out worked you and got a bit of individual genius....you weren't exactly outplayed.

don't be too negative about this.

I know, it's been 48 hours now and I'm not feeling so pi55ed off as I was before... Sam is doing a bloody good job and has put together a competent squad. I forget that most of the Spurs players have only played a dozen games together and perhaps I expected a little too much from them so relitively early in the season...

I was really looking forward to this game. Have become partial to Spurs. Enjoy watching them play. Was hugely dissappointed with their perfomance. They could have done a lot better. I think Tainio is not the man to lead the midfield attack & also Mido was strangley non-existent. Unfortunate 'bout the offside call but I think this may just serve as a timely reminder to Jol to rotate some of his squad. Undoubtedly Spurs are the better team & I believe the final positions will reflect this.

I agree that Tainio should not lead the midfield attack, his inclusion was pretty much due to the unfortunate absense of the recently outstanding Lennon and resutled in Jenas being pushed out to the right flank and thus wasted...

I consider Tainio to be more in the Davids mould, defensive duties seem more suited to him. My ideal first 11 at this time would look like this...

..........Defoe.....Mido

................Jenas
......Carrick...........Lennon
................Davids

Lee.....King......Dawson......Stalteri

..................Robbo

Play this team every week and we'll soon get it together. Fantastic attacking Triangle with Lee and Stalteri available to get up the wings in support... Davids and Carrick and interchangable as are Lennon and Jenas making both 2 sets of players hard to mark... Job done...

surely lennon and jenas should be swapped round there.

Agreed. that is probably the strongest 11 available. The team needs more width though. A winger? who? also I think Lee is capable of more but he's still adjusting to England. Davids should play where you've got Carrick, but like you said, they're interchangeable.

lennon, el hamdoui and routledge are all talented young wingers.

but to play two of them you would need to drop a striker or one of carrick/jenas/davids

personally i prefer the diamond with lennon given a free role.

I like Lennon best when he's attacking from a slightly deeper position where he'll have more time on the ball. I say this because he's only a small, lightly built lad and I fear he would be stifled and restricted if he only had the area behind the front two to work in...?

As I said though, Jenas and him are easily interchangable and could freely swap position as attacks build up etc...

el hamdoui is more a stiker really and we're forgetting Andy Reid, he's a good winger chubby or not!
