Default Sevilla make Kanoute swoop

Striker Fredi Kanoute signed a four-year deal with Sevilla on Wednesday after joing the Spanish side from Tottenham for £4.4m.

The 27-year-old Mali international has agreed a long-term contract with the Primera Liga club, who recently sold star striker Julio Baptista to Real Madrid.

Kanoute becomes Sevilla's second major arrival in less than a week following the loan signing of Barcelona forward Javier Saviola.

Kanoute scored 14 goals in 59 appearances for Tottenham and will be officially unveiled on Thursday.

A striker coming in now looks a certainty as does a new left back as the fee for the striker may involve one of our lefties it is rumoured.

I suspect that the Jenas deal may happen nearer the 31st as Souness becomes desperate to sign someone who can score goals. Keane out Jenas in I reckon and either Baros or Ashton coming in to make up the four strikers as El Hamdouai is not considered ready for regular first team football yet.

Still think there may be someone who we haven't mentioned yet coming in to surprise us.

And maybe jol thinks Lennon will play a key role this season despite his youth.

Meanwhile, a touch of sadness and a hint of bitterness from Kanoute:

Tottenham Hotspur striker Frederic Kanoute has revealed that he's sad to be leaving the North London club. The Mali international should complete his £4.4m move to Sevilla once he has passed a medical.

Kanoute said: "I'm sad to be leaving Spurs but after I found out directly from the board they wanted to sell me I felt it was only right for me to leave.

"The time was right to move on and start a new challenge somewhere else. I know that the manager said he was happy to keep me but if they really wanted me to stay, they wouldn't have been prepared to sell me - which they were.

"They have some very good players, but it's how they manage those players that I think will determine what they can achieve.

"Knowing how to deal with such a big squad is going to be their main issue this season - but if they can do that then I think they will have a great season."

Yes, the touch of bitterness is thre, though he tried to hide it. Feel sorry for the bloke. Spurs could be on the verge of something big and he won't, now, be a part of it.
