Default Let's save our money for a rainy day

The amount of speculation currently buzzing around Spurs begs the question: Will they add another piece to the puzzle before the current transfer window slams shut?
Talk of Jermaine Jenas, Kuyt, Young Lee Po, De Ridder, Carlton Cole throughout the press over the past few weeks would seem to suggest that the answer is yes. But who's it to be? Currently the squad stands at 36 players, give or take a Bunjy and Johnnie Jackson or two, so one wonders just where anyone else would fit in.
Could Jenas become our 14th central midfield general? Is Jol not so happy with the performances of Erik Edman? Is Keane on his way to Newcastle in exchange for JJ, paving the way for Cole or Kuyt to step in? Will Kanoute be blowing bubbles again or bottles in the North East?
These are questions that none but the self-confessed ITKs have the answers to.
The real question is, do Tottenham really need anyone with any great urgency? The squad is surely young enough and deep enough to be brought along with all the tender loving care that Jol usually reserves for his wife come Saturday evening. With patience, and good guidance from the Dutchman, the Spurs team finally appears to have some shape, some fight and some guile. There seems to be more of a winning mentality there now following an unbeaten stretch of 10 games or so including wins against the likes of Lyon and Porto, than there has been since the early nineties. So why look to spend (if you believe what the ITKs tell you)? I'd say spend the season letting the lads find their feet. There appears to be no danger of a relegation struggle based on the evidence so far, so why not see how far these young players can go on their own with a little help from the experienced Davids, Naybet and Staltieri and save our money for a rainy day?

JJ I can wait for, I'm happy across the back and midfield and see no urgent holes that need filling...

The only area I am worried about to whatever extent is up front. With Kanute gone we only have 3 first team strikers, 2 of which are proven to not be able to play along-side each other (Keane-Defoe)

Now, due to the Keane/Defoe no-go, it's a common concern that we might hit hard times between now and January if Mido gets injured or even fails to hit good form... i.e. we need another striker to make our attack diverse again as it was when Fredi was with us....

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink... Well we might struggle to get his name on a shirt! He's 6' 2" and strong, scored 19 goals in 29 starts last season, could be good...

Dirk Kyut... Ok sounds like a prawn-star and is not as tall as V of H but 29 goals in any league is bloody good...

Carlton Cole... No thanks, he's too much of an 'almost-there-but-not-quite' player...

Ashton... Could be blinding, or a let-down, and I'm dubious...

Personally I'd like to blend the Dutch chaps together getting Kuyts goals and touch and V of H's size and presense ... Still, settling for one. I'd like to see V of H for that presence that he'll give to the side because we've got Defoe and Keano as the main goal scorers and I'm happy with them...

Perhaps... but TBH we haven't really built our team on TOP players but more on up and coming/team players. Ok we've got Defoe who is now really coming into his own, but he was far from the finished article when we took him from WH. Davids is about the most big-name player we have signed recently and he has come in at 32yrs and for free...

I thinks it's obvious that Spurs is not yet an attractive enough prospect to really be a probable destination for the real big-time strikers out there other than those that are on the decline (alla Davids) Even if we had the money to splash we still couldn't attract the likes of your Ronaldo's, Eto'o's, Rooney's etc because they want yearly champions league footie. Look at Everton, they are there at the moment but surely won't be next year or thereafter which is undboutably part of the reason that they can't sign a decent striker for love nor money at the moment...

I'd settle for an almost/up and comming player. Look at Van Nistelrooy before he went to United or Henry after his Juve days...

atm i dont think you need 4 strikers.

your not in europe yet and you wont always play with 2 up top...defoe/mido/keane is good and if your desperate reid can play up top with someone else.

a fourth striker (unless its a kid) might upset the balance of the squad atm.

I agree in most part with that, I certainly would want to rock the boat with all the good that is happening right now. Still, I will maintain that the loss of Mido could hurt us bad with JD and Keane being a non-functioning pair...

Reidy would be a poor excuse for a stiker IMO, I'd rather see Tainio up there I think...

It won't be the end of the world if we don't get a stiker in, but any sort of major set back between now an Jan' could cost us places with the league now being at it's most competitive in years...

with such a varied midfield and such quick wingers you could easily convert to a solid 433.
