Default Jenas to Spurs

The rumour is gathering pace.

Some have even mentioned 7.2m tomorrow. Far to much for a player who has failed to prove himself imo.

I'd accept it. I'm fed up of his poor form, which has been going for the last two seasons. And last season, at times, he didn't look interested.

spurs would do well to steer clear of this prima donna.

they already have better options anyway

NEWCASTLE UNITED last night vowed to block Tottenham's bid to sign Jermaine Jenas.

The London club are ready to pay £6million for the England midfielder, who was dropped by manager Graeme Souness near the end of last season.

But Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd said: "We are not in the business of selling our best players - and Jermaine Jenas comes into that category.

"Graeme made him captain when Alan Shearer was injured last season, which shows how highly he is regarded."

Shepherd insisted that Spurs have not contacted him about Jenas, but added: "Even if they did, they would be wasting their time."

But Jenas faces tough competition at St James' Park from Scott Parker, Amdy Faye, Nicky Butt, Kieron Dyer, Lee Bowyer - and possibly Inter Milan's Turkish star Emre, who as agreed personal terms with the Geordies.

I for one be would be very happy with Jenas at the Lane, i know midfeild is hardly a place we need to strenghten in, but aplayer of his quality will always fit in. He has had some patchy form but there is no doubting his ability, and with no offence intended to Newcastle but that club is no bed of roses at the minute is it?

Souness is on par with Hoddle as THE worst man managment coach/manager anywhere in this country, a man like these two is hardly ever going to get the best out of there players now is he.

From today's Mirror:

FOOTBALL SPY: TOON ARE SCARED OF JERM WARFARE
JERMAINE JENAS is ready to quit Newcastle United and spark a £10million bidding war between Arsenal, Tottenham and possibly Manchester United.

The England starlet wants talks with Toon Army officials about his future - with the midfielder worried about what the new season holds.

Sources reveal Jenas would like to get out of Newcastle for deep-seated personal reasons, although Souness (above left) and chairman Freddy Shepherd are huge fans of his.

Jenas, 22, was stunned to find out Spurs had made a £6m weekend offer for him - a bid that was rejected. They are likely to increase their offer, while Arsenal and United could pounce.

Looking more likely though the source is questionable to say the least!

Cant believe Arsenal is being linked with him! Dont get me wrong he is good but I dont think he would fit into our setup. So please Newcastle, keep him or sell him to Spurs.

Could a swap deal be on the cards?

Jun 30 2005

By Miles Starforth, The Evening Chronicle

Robbie Keane has sounded out three of his Republic of Ireland team-mates about a move to Newcastle United.

The Magpies' retain an interest in the Tottenham Hotspur striker, with chairman Freddy Shepherd and manager Graeme Souness desperate to bring a big-name centre forward to St James' Park before the start of the season.

Keane asked Shay Given, Stephen Carr and Andy O'Brien about the set-up at St James' while on international duty earlier this month.

Last season the former Inter Milan and Leeds United man was relegated to the bench on several occasions, boss Martin Jol partnering Jermaine Defoe with Freddie Kanoute up front. The 24-year-old, who is approaching the final year of his contract, is ready to call time on his White Hart Lane career after three years at the North London club.

Souness, meanwhile, faces going into next month's Intertoto Cup campaign with just Alan Shearer and Michael Chopra as available strikers.

Shola Ameobi is out until at least the end of August following an end-of-season hip operation.

Craig Bellamy remains on Newcastle United's books, though Souness is not about to do a U-turn and bring him back into the fold.

Souness' only other option is to deploy midfielder Kieron Dyer as a forward, as he did on several occasions last season.

Absolutely not. We'd be getting the short end of the stick. The news, though, is just too coincidental for my liking.

Didnt think so. Spurs would have to get some money on top of a deal like that.
