Default Hamburg wait for Atouba

Hamburg's interest in Thimothee Atouba is on hold following the upheaval at Tottenham Hotspur.

The German outfit had been keen to bring the Cameroon international to Die Bundesliga during the summer.

It is understood that Spurs sporting director Frank Arnesen was willing to sanction the exit of Atouba, who can play anywhere down the left flank.

But Arnesen has since been suspended by Tottenham following Chelsea's courtship of the former Denmark international.

With a new setup likely to be introduced at White Hart Lane in the near future that has put the issue of Atouba's departure on hold.

Atouba is now considering staying in North London, with Arnesen due to leave the club, and that could scupper Hamburg's planned bid.

Hamburg are keen to strengthen their options at left back and were willing to pay £1 million for the African.

The ex-Basel ace joined Spurs last summer but has not established himself as a first-team regular in the plans of coach Martin Jol.

To be honest, he's a decent back-up/reserve player, but he wants first-team football and going by his perfomance, it wouldn't be a great tragedy to see him leave and Tottenham should be looking for players of a higher calibre.

Default Atouba hoping for Hamburg switch

http://skysports.planetfootball.com/...=football_home

Tottenham Hotspur defender Thimothee Atouba has reiterated his desire to secure a move to Bundesliga outfit Hamburg.

Speaking in an interview with Die Welt, the 23-year-old Cameroon star said that he had held positive talks with HSV sport director Dietmar Beiersdorfer.

"I would be extremely happy to move to Hamburg," he said. "The club always conducts itself in a top class way and that says a lot."

Atouba refused to criticise anyone at White Hart Lane, but added that he needed to move on to keep his career moving forward.

"I haven't been in the line-up recently and if the club don't think I'm capable of playing regular first team football then it's time I looked elsewhere.

"I want to play for a club where I can play a pivotal role," he said.

Hamburg have reportedly fallen well short of Tottenham's €3 million (£2 million) valuation for Atouba, but the Rothosen could be ready to up their offer should strikers Emile Mpenza and Bernardo Romeo sign for Olympiakos and Panathinaikos respectively.
