Agreed I'd rather see it go to Philly first myself.

I'd rather (as Frank knows LOL) see no Canadian based teams. Soccer Canada should be striving to start their own domestic league.

I'd rather let cities get teams if they have the money and will build SSS.
Who cares where we think it should go?
Did anyone think Salt Lake and Columbus would get teams???
Cities get MLS teams for one reason:
MONEY!

Yes, but I think there are enough worthy candidates in the US without having to go North (or South) of the border.

Really?
Name 1 city in the US that has an owner/investor mentioned?
I can name only Houston (and Club America's odd prereleases make them suspect too).

don't get me wrong I like canada and love Toronto, but if Toronto gets a MLS club, I'm done with the MLS. MLS should be US only. Let Canada start there own league or leagues and maybe in the future we could have a North American Champions League or a CONCACAF Champions League.

I NEVER said I could name potential investors. Please read what I said again. I said that there were worthy candidates in the US -- perhaps I should have made clear that I was only talking about cities with potential as franchise locations. I simply feel that if the league looks or SEEKS candidates that there are cities in the USA that fit the criteria of being able to support a team.
Currently I don't think the MLS is actively seeking cities or bids. That said OKC and Tulsa have expressed a high level of interest along with Rochester. Additionally Seattle has had on and off discussions along with St. Louis and Philadelphia. I never said I knew of any with an owner/investor.

I didn't say that you should know. My point is that if we want to play "who is getting an MLS team" it can't be based on "this city deserves it" or "this is a big city" type ideas. It has be based on the facts. Facts are that Toronto is building a good SSS-type stadium for the FIFA World Youth Championships and one of the biggest sports companies in Canada (NHL Maple Leafs and NBA Raptor owners) is interested in being the owner/investor.
No other city in North America can say that. Therefore Toronto has be the number 1 most likely city to get a MLS team in 2007.

Rochester deserves one. Not sure if this is true, but I heard MLS promised them one if they built a SSS which they are doing.

That is totally NOT true. MLS doesn't care if Pele and Alan Shearer played for Rochester, they are only going there if Rhinos have a $10 million check ready.
If this wasn't the case, then we would be welcoming Real Seattle instead of Real Salt Lake this year.

a team in Toronto and Vancouver will only make Canada national team stronger, in the late 70's and early 80's Canada had a stronger national team and qualify to the World Cup instead of the United States
you can't force Toronto to have american draft pick's can you? they not going for it

The sticky point is MLS's unique pro-domestic rosters. Wheelock of FoxSports seems to think FIFA won't have a problem, but it will be certainly interesting on how they handle it.

1. WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
"We've done a fair amount of work on this. Enough that we're going to keep looking at it."
-- Richard Peddie, president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which owns the NHL Maple Leafs, the NBA Raptors, in pursuing an MLS franchise for the Toronto area that would play in a new stadium at York University in 2007. (Toronto Star)
"Along comes the CSA [Canadian Soccer Association] two years ago -- on its own, unilaterally saying it was going to promote a Major League Soccer ownership group in Toronto. As if we needed that, right? As if soccer's doing so really well, we don't need one professional team, we need two teams in Toronto?
-- Bruno Hartrell, chief financial officer for the United Soccer League' Toronto Lynx, now drawing about 2,000 a game to Etobicoke's Centennial Stadium. (Toronto Star)
