We did it. I am really releaved I knew we could hold them to a draw and we even had the chance to win the match in the last minute.

Schaaf Content With Inter Point

It was honours even at the San Siro tonight as Werder Bremen held Inter Milan to a 1-1 draw in their Group B encounter. Bremen trainer Thomas Schaaf admitted that he was content with the draw.

Claudio Pizarro returned to haunt his former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho with the goal that equalised an earlier strike from Maicon at the San Siro.

“Overall it was a good performance” trainer Thomas Schaaf admitted after the final whistle. “In the first half we reacted instead of instigating things ourselves.

“The second half was much better. After going behind we continued to play well” he added.

“At the end we had a few good chances but Claudio Pizarro failed to make proper contact with the ball.”

Inter Strikers Are Monsters! - Mertesacker

Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker says that Inter's strikers are physically the most powerful that he's ever come up against.

Speaking after his side managed a credible 1-1 draw at the Giuseppe Meazza, the German international defender admitted to being profoundly impressed by the Nerazzurri strike-force of Ibrahimovic, Balotelli and Adriano.

"That was the most powerful front-line that I've every played against," said Mertesacker, who himself is no slouch having played at World Cups, European Championships and against the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea.

"Their guys were all huge, fit and on top of that very agile. I have to admit that does make an impression as most of the guy in northern Germany aren't built as solidly."

On the night the Bundesliga side were more than a match, however, and were able to leave Milan with a point and their heads up high.

"After a shaky start we really managed to pull ourselves together. Everyone played selflessly and in the end we did ourselves proud," concluded Mertesacker.

Werder will now be looking to build on the result when they travel to face Panathinaikos on October 22.
