Bischoff Closer To Arsenal After Rejecting Werder Deal

Bundesliga side Werder Bremen have revealed that their Portugal Under-21 international, Amaury Bischoff, has turned down the offer of a contract extension - a decision thought likely to confirm his move to Arsenal.

Amaury Bischoff last week said he was on the verge of signing for Arsenal, and that eventuality has moved a significant step closer following his rejection of Werder Bremen's proposed contract extension.

Injuries blighted Bischoff's time in German football, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger - who in the past took successful gambles on the fitness of Marc Overmars and Kanu, seems undeterred. He has tracked the player for some time and clearly sees potential.

Bischoff, who is Portuguese of French descent, has said Arsenal is where his career will best develop, under Wenger's management.

He told the German title Bild: "Bremen was superb, but Arsenal is a huge opportunity for me.

"Wenger has known me since my time at Strasbourg and believes in my quality. He trusts me to be in the first team.

"Wenger has not put me under any pressure. He said, 'Take all the time you need.'"

Meanwhile Werder's managing director, Klaus-Dieter Fischer, confirmed that the club tried to hang on to the player.

"We would be happy to have Amaury, but he has decided to take up a new challenge,” Fischer told Werder's official website. "We wish him well and thank him for the past three years."

Erdem heading for Istanbul

Werder Bremen's Alparslan Erdem will be tying up his boots for top Turkish outfit Galatasaray from now on.

The clubs, both of whom are competing in this season's Champions League, finalised terms for the move on Saturday, agreeing not to disclose the transfer fee.

"Sorry to see him go"

Erdem's contract at Bremen ran until 2009. Sporting director Klaus Allofs said, "We can confirm the move. It represents a very interesting challenge for Alparslan Erdem. He has the prospect of a good role in the team at Galatasary. That notwithstanding, we're sorry to see him go, because we had a squad role earmarked for him here as well."

At the same time Allofs pointed out, "The fact is that there is a lot of competition for the left-back position here, on top of which we have a number of young players coming through. Galatasaray came up with an offer that made sense for all parties and is financially rewarding for Bremen."

He was one of the best players in our second team. He would have gotten some chances in our first team this season. But 1,2 Million for someone who never played in the Bundesliga is a really good offer and we have enough talents on his position to cover his loss.

Erdem Leaves Werder For Galatasaray

Alparslan Erdem has expressed his delight at completing a move from Werder Bremen to Galatasaray.

The 19-year-old was born in Germany to Turkish parents, so he is especially enthusiastic about now plying his trade in his motherland.

"I have had a good time here and felt very happy, but I think I have better prospects at Galatasaray," said Erdem soon after the completing the transfer, the terms of which have yet to be revealed.

"A large part of my family lives in Turkey so I will feel at home very quickly."

Werder director Klaus Allofs expressed regret to have lost Erdem, who first joined the club as a 14-year-old, though stressed that the deal was beneficial to all parties.

"It is an interesting challenge for Alparslan Erdem because Galatasaray have in mind a good role for him in their team," he said.

"Nevertheless, it is a real shame because he was on the fringes of our team and would have had chances.

"The fact is, we have a strong competition for places at left full-back and there are lots of young players coming through.

"Galatasaray's offer was attractive for everybody and was lucrative for us."

Bergomi: Diego Perfect For Inter

Legendary Inter Milan defender Giuseppe Bergomi spoken about the situation at his former club and gave his opinion on which player would best suit the team...

In an interview with Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, the man known as 'lo Zio' - for the longevity of his career and his paternal role - has commented on the state of the Nerazzurri with new coach Jose Mourinho now at the helm.

When asked whether Mourinho would make the difference that Inter needs to succeed in the elusive Champions League, Bergomi responded, “The Champions League is difficult. Inter always approach the games incorrectly but with Mourinho and the quality of the group, they might find the right answers.”

The 1982 World Cup winning defender then spoke of the transfer situation, with Sulley Muntari arriving after the capture of Frank Lampard had not gone to plan. “Inter has a backup for every role in the team,” he continued. “Lampard would have been the cherry on top, but playing the way Inter do I would have liked to see a player of quality and strength like Diego of Werder Bremen.”

Bergomi then turned the focus to Inter's cross-town cousins AC Milan, who have had an impressive transfer campaign. He quipped: “Players like Ronaldinho, [Mathieu] Flamini and [Gianluca] Zambrotta have arrived, but at the back if [Alessandro] Nesta and [Kakha] Kaladze have the flu, Milan have problems.”

The weakness in the Rossoneri defence is pointed out here by the ex-Interista who is perhaps hoping to take some of the shine off Milan's transfer successes.

Atlético Make Serious Diego Approach

Werder Bremen’s Brazilian playmaker Diego could be heading to Madrid this season, but not to the club most would expect him to go. It is in fact the capital’s second side, Atlético Madrid, who have launched a serious assault to land the midfielder.

After missing out on Valencia’s David Silva, Atlético Madrid are now turning their attention to Werder Bremen’s superstar playmaker, Diego Ribas da Cunha.

According to Spanish daily As, Los Colchoneros have already tabled a €16 million bid for the flamboyant 23 year old, although Werder are expected to hold out for a figure close to €25 million. But the Spanish outfit are confident that a middle ground of €20 million can be reached if the Hanseatic club are willing to negotiate.

Coach Javier Aguirre has been busy searching for a true central playmaker since pre-season began and after his side struggled badly to break down a resilient Schalke defence in midweek in the Champions League qualifiers, his request has suddenly become top priority with the club hierarchy.

Although money is hardly a determining issue for the rojiblancos, the move could be highly dependent on whether or not they can offload Maniche and Georgios Seitaridis to free up some cash.

The pair are still very much involved in the team’s pre-season squad but neither Aguirre nor president, Enrique Cerezo are convinced they have any sort of future at the club.

Atleti will have to move fast, though, as the European transfer market closes in just a little over two weeks, the same time as La Liga’s kick off.

Juventus To Launch €20m Bid For Diego?

Juventus are once again ready to try and swoop for Werder Bremen midfielder Diego according to Calciomercato.

The Bianconeri have been keen on signing the Brazilian all summer and although they have been distracted by other targets, Diego has resurfaced on the Old Lady’s radar.

Calciomercato claims the Turin based outfit are ready to swing into action if they make the group stages of the Champions League, which is more than likely.

The Bianconeri will receive €30m if they get through and reports suggest Claudio Ranieri will be using some of the money to invest in more players.

Alberto Aquilani and Dejan Stankovic seem distant targets but Diego seems easier to get to.

It is believed Werder are looking for between €16m and €20m for their asset and Juve may come in with a decent offer to tempt the player.

The Old Lady is aiming high this year and success in Europe is their main priority. Diego would be a welcome addition to the side as he offers great fire power as well creativity, vision and skill in the middle of the park.

Le Havre Consider Sanogo Move

In an attempt to bolster their offensive strength, Le Havre head coach Jean-Marc Nobilo may add Werder Bremen forward Boubacar Sanogo to his squad if complications over a deal can be overcome…

Although there are concerns with the defence of Le Havre, it seems that Nobilo would prefer to consider a striker to help the ailing Normandy club blast their way out of the relegation zone.

Le Havre looked at several options over the summer, including Saint-Étienne forwards David Gigliotti and Sébastien Grax, but Sanogo is apparently top of their list.

There are complications involved with the move for the Werder Breman forward as he wishes to move to a side that has cemented its place in a top league. Le Havre’s current position is looking very unstable indeed and, if they continue to fall, they may well slip out of the race for the striker.

Sanogo has an excellent goal scoring record in Germany, finding the net at a rate of around once every four matches and could prove an invaluable asset to a struggling Le Havre side.

Although Le Havre have one joker signing they are permitted to make, they would have to wait until January to sign the frozen out player, who would likely join in the form of a loan deal with an option to purchase.

Nikola Nikezić, who played 23 times for HAC in their promotion campaign of last season, scoring seven goals along the way, is poised to leave the club when they next transfer window opens.

Juventus Closer To Diego Move - Report

Juventus are moving ever closer to landing Werder Bremen star Diego in January, according to Tuttosport...

The Bianconeri are keen on creative midfielder Diego and he may arrive during the January transfer window.

Tuttosport claims the Italian club sent one of their secret observers, Biagio Gallivanone, to watch the game between Bremen and Koln at the Weserstadion on Sunday afternoon.

Juve have always denied reports suggesting they were after the Brazilian, but the observer will no doubt be briging home the good news. Diego scored a stunning goal on Sunday and, now, he could arrrive sooner rather than later.

Gallivanone's task in Germany was to see if Diego would fit into Claudio Ranieri's 4-4-2 system.

La Vecchia Signora need a midfielder in order to bolster their squad over the course of the season and the 23-year-old could prove to be they key for the Italians.

Furthermore, Juve's constant injury woes have caused panic and some extra strength in the middle would be welcome, given their hopes of landing silverware this season.
